Ok, my buddy is doing an article for a magazine and needs our help. He's looking for bars near trails all across America. I know, kind of a odd request but heck, we all know of some type of dive bar im sure.

Below are some that we've already been working on through friends and submissions to the magazine. This is what he's aiming for.

  • Up here in the Great Pacific Northwest is a bar called Whistling Jacks. Great trail bar
  • CROWN KING ARIZONA . IT'S A NEAT TRAIL FROM LAKE PLEASANT TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN , AFTER ABOUT A FOUR HOUR RIDE YOU GET TO THE TOP TO AN OLD LITTLE TOWN WITH THE ORIGINAL BAR WITH THE BROTHEL UPSTAIRS . YOU CAN GET A COLD BEER , A SHOT , BUT YOU GOT TO BRING YOUR OWN WOMAN . THE LOCAL LADIES CAN BE PRETTY RUFF . THERE'S A GREAT LITTLE CAFÉ' ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE BAR (CINDY'S CAFÉ') FOR SOME GOOD GRUB .
  • Here is a "dive bar" outside of Barstow CA. http://www.slashxranchcafe.com/ you may know where it is but if you don't here ya go. The Slash X cafe on rt. 247 about 12mi. south of Barstow going toward Lucern Valley. Near Stoddard Wells area.
  • Captian Jim's in Salton City. I think the street is Haven but not sure. Anyway, it's right behind the Sheriff's station (appropriatly, but they don't bother us) a couple of blocks east of 86S. It's about a mile down from N. Marina Dr. (Truckhaven Hills) area.
  • One of our favorite places to go in Pa. is a nice little bar that has GREAT food and a Beer selection to match. It's Oneil's on Main St. in Pine Grove Pa. just south of Rausch Creek Off Road Park in Tower City
  • Since you have been to the Rubicon trail more than a handful of times, Im sure you have stopped at or at least heard of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Uncle Toms Cabin is located off Wentworth Springs Rd just after Stumpy Meadows Lake and before Ice House Road.
  • "The Desert Bar" near Parker Az. 5 miles off the beaten path in the middle of no where. It's a cool bar that runs off solar power. It closes at night for obvious reasons.Blank
If you know of any dive bars or just plain bars near trails or off the beaten path... post up and add to the list.

***Please post pics of the place if you can***

I'll play.

Two in AB:

"Iron Door Bar" in Ocotillo Wells on Split Mtn road

"Lazy Lizard Bar" in Ocotillo near PLaster City

Pozo Saloon is the only one that I have experienced.

And hope to experience again one day.

Don't forget to bring your $1 bills for the Iron Door. NO NO NO, no strippers just every inch of wall is covered in $1 bills.

We'll have to do a rock/pub crawl one of these days. Hit the Lazy Lizard for breakfast, Iron Door for lunch, and Captain Jim's for dinner.

I LUV it!!!!

I will probably be out by the Lazy Lizard next weekend. A bunch of my Friends are camping down the road for the weekend and I will probably join them for a day. I figure my rig in need of rotors and a birff job can hang with the Rhino's and VW Manx's for a day.

I thought about mentioning Pozo, but it's not 'really' near any offroading trails of any significance. Sure it get's traffic thru SnT and there are some small trails off the fire road between Pismo Beach and Pozo, but that's about it. Great historical significance tho!

If you guys can post pics, i forgot to mention that. (if you have them). If you do have good quality high res pics you can email them to pete dot trasborg at gmail dot com along with your name.

Thanks all for the help

I was just coming back to edit my previous post to see if he wanted a recent photo of the Lazy Lizard. If I go next weekend I will snap one.

Rusty's Bar on 395 / Main St in Bishop ! Sorry, couldn't find any photos of the outside but here is an interior shot of the "decor" which speaks for itself:

There's the saloon in Pioneer Town at the end/start of the Burns/Rattlesnake Cyn trail to Big Bear.

And the saloon in Cerro Gordo Ghost Town - authentic saloon but only serves root beer.

Come on Dave, can't leave out the most famous biker bar in the OC located nice and close to one of the only trails left in OC. Cooks Corner of course.

Very true, that one skipped my mind. Been there many times!

the real sad thing is that when I saw the thread title I was thinking "mmm.... some sort of new sway bar mod...?"
Sad...

Hopeless! :frown:

yet :D

Tom's Place on 395 about 15 Miles south of the Mammoth Lakes turnoff. They have a restaurant/bar, stays open pretty late on weekends, closes early weekdays. I had the biggest damn martini I've ever had there. Actually two of them. each one had to be at least 4-5 ozs of Vodka.

Let's say I was feeling no pain (until morning)

:-)

I just thought of another one. NorCal 80's group did a trip into the Desatoya's of central NV a few years ago, and during that trip, we checked out some of the local ghost towns. One was called either Berlin or Ione, don't remember which town it was. There was a bar that was at least 100 years old, probably older (1800's) and it was open. Alvaro walked in. and slapped down a coin and said "Give me a Whiskey", then grinned from ear to ear. He said he'd always wanted to do that.

Anyway, it was way more than one coin for that whiskey!

But it was a bar right out of the old west. Sort of like the ones in Virginia City but without the tourists.

And one more (I could go on, but I'll stop at this one). On my way to meet the NorCal gang last May on our pre-Cruise-Moab tour of Canyonlands NP, I stayed the night in Richfield UT. During the evening, driving around to scope out the town and get some food, I drove by the only bar in town (this is Utah, don't forget). It was called The Detour, and I think every biker within 50 miles was there. I drove right on by.

White House Saloon in Randsberg, CA - ride your dirt bike or 4x4 right up to the door. A REAL western saloon.

Sorry Dave, I'm Lame.....

I didn't get the pic on the way in of the Lazy Lizard figuring I would get it when I left. Well after 6hrs of wheeling and a pounding headache I had the :princess: drive home as I passed out. Plus it was 9:30 at night so it would have been a night shot.

But wheeling Painted Gorge trail was a blast! LINK.
