Hello all- You may remember me as the guy that found the first 200 series to need a new transmission under 120K miles (2013 LX with 113k). I say this tongue in cheek but it is certainly very rare and very well may be true.

Anyhow, after extensive searching I located a one owner 2010 LX with 150K miles that has had documented service records at Lexus from 5K-150K without missing a single service. The previous owner drove the car about 20K miles a year which leads me to believe they were most likely all highway. The PO traded it in for a new Audi and no Lexus records indicate ANY problems immediately prior to trade in.

The issues I am facing today are two-fold. Compared to my previous experience just a few weeks ago, these are minor (I hope) but I want to make sure this truck lasts me until at least 300K without major issues.

1) There is a surging humming/buzzing/whirring electrical motor-like noise somewhere in the front drivers seat area. It is present when all systems are off (AC/Heater/Seat Heater/Cooler/Radio) but it is present when the car is in accessory mode or with the engine actually on. I have taken videos of the noise and while it seems faint in the video, it's certainly audible in person. When seated, it sounds like it may be coming behind the gauge cluster or dash, but when I moved my head around, I think I have isolated it to underneath the driver's seat. Listen to the noise get louder when the camera moves to underneath the seat. The sound system works fine, as do the seat heaters, etc. Only warning light I have on dash is a tire one that says 'check tire system'.

2) When at a slow speed and the steering wheel turned, I hear a click and feel a pop in the steering wheel. It usually happens in reversing situations but is present when moving forward as well. I think it may be CV axles? I just had an inspection done before buying the car and all they noted was 4 leaking shocks. I had the selling dealership (Audi North Houston) replace the four shocks/struts before sending me the car. Could this be related to improper installation?

Other than these two issues, the truck feels NEW in the way it drives. It is much nicer than the 2013 I briefly had, and I am thrilled to be behind the wheel. I plan to order some new wheels and tires tomorrow, but definitely want to find out what's going on. I will attach the videos from my phone in a subsequent post.

Thanks MUDDERS!

Sound from dash:

same sound recorded from under drivers seat, note it gets louder:

Forgot to add- the sound is intermittent, but mostly always there. It stops at random for moments at a time.

Noise 1 is your seat cool fan. If the switch is truly off, the switch could be defective.

Well the sound is present irrespective of switch position. Are you thinking the fan is running even if the switch is off? Wouldn’t that mean my seat would be cold at all times? I am able to run the seat heater and still hear the noise. The noise as you hear it in the video sounds like a motor not a blowing fan. Are you pretty certain this is the seat cooler fan? Thanks for your responses mcgaskins.

Check the manual.

I don't have one. I'll go to dealer and pick one up. Thanks for your input.

Edit: Found one on LOS. For anyone that finds this thread; fuse for seat heater/cooler is number 6 located in the engine compartment.

That's what I'm suggesting - the switch is broken and it's broken in the "on" position all the time. TBH the early LX cooled seats do very little even when they are working perfectly, so the seats would definitely not be cold. It's very hard to tell from the video, but if I'm hearing what I think I'm hearing that's what my LX cooled seat motor sounds like.

Going to go pull the fuse and see if it persists! If the noise is there with the fuse pulled, safe to say we can rule this out. Fingers crossed, hoping you are right my friend. Thanks for the insight, you've been invaluable McG!

Did that fix it? I have a very similar sound...

Your second issue could be related to drive shaft noise. If you have not done so take a grease gun and grease all zyrks.

i never got around to pulling the fuse, I just lived with the sound (tuned it out pretty quickly) for about 8 months until someone ran a red light in an Escalade and totalled the truck.

I picked up a replacement LX two weeks ago that does not have the sound. I traced it to the amplifier (90% sure) but everything was still operational. Seemed to be just an annoyance more than a material issue.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I am glad to hear you are ok. A hit from an Escalade is no small thing. Do you happen to have pictures from the accident? I am always curious how these hold up in various collision scenarios.
