I have a problem with a 97 FZJ80 that I'm not going to be able to diagnose/repair myself.

Posted about it in the 80 forum, but here it is again in case it catches any eyes here:

It's a 97 with about 225k on it. I bought it about 3 months ago with zero problems thus far.

Today I was in the fast lane of the interstate and went to pass a slowpoke going 10 miles under (60 in a 70) on the right since he wasn't budging.

When I stepped on it a little, I heard a grinding/buzzing noise.

Pulled it off the highway and it seemed fine but now it shows up during shifts, particularly with semi-aggressive acceleration.

Sound like the torque converter going bad to you guys? Entire transmission ****ting the bed?

Looking to get someone to look at it this week if possible. Thanks a ton!

Thanks, but driving it all the way up to Greenville isn't an option. I'm not willing to take that chance.

I think the lowcountry guys use lextech but they may not be any closer. Post on the low country site and see what they say.

Go buy this and put it in and give it a go. Might be worth a try. Fixed two transmissions this way.

I believe the guy on here named ncfj is somewhat close to you. He is a mechanic for lc's

Went ahead and ordered two Tubes of the Dr. Tranny's and stuck one in this evening.

Went for a drive and I noticed an improvement at low speeds so I took it on the interstate. Up until 65/70 it seems fine but any faster than that and there's still a very noticeable buzzing/grinding sound.

Thanks for the help, Trollhole. Is your shop up in Mauldin? If so, I'm fairly sure I can limp it up there whenever you have time to take a look and give me an estimate. Can you hit me up via PM with a phone number and directions? Thanks.

My buddy has a shop in Irmo called "Men at Work"
It is off Lake Murry Blvd going towards the Dam. It is right behind the Furniture store at Meredith Drive. He isnt a Cruiser only mechanic but he is very good to help out.
