There are multiple camp areas once you make it in. We usually don't all meet up and go in at once, unless you arranged to caravan with others beforehand...So some come in groups and a lot just solo as you make it up.

I'm definitely going to plan for it, will know in a couple of weeks. Need to get my birf swapped and new shocks installed, really need to get off my lazy a$$.

Might be able to make it if i can get a few days off work. Gotta prep for my trip to Alaska and BC, but I might be able to swing it as a "test trip".

@KeepCruzin It will be nice see you again young stud, never got a chance to drive your rig last time.:D
How's the 40 project? The 60 is still out and waiting for funds for a new set of gears and tires.

@icorradoi , @jcardona1 , @Qball Hope you guys can make it and join us.
I am planning on heading out on Thursday I will try to post some signs for those thats never been there it's so easy to miss the turn specially at
night, just FYI last year there was no cell signal in Downieville and I have AT&T.

Rebuilt my axles/knuckles yesterday, so my rig is pretty much ready to go. Hoping I can make it. We’ll see what management says about it haha

I just spoke to Jane who was out there last year organizing the clean up of the campsites before we arrived. She said they are closing the 4x4 campsite for 2 months starting in early July to put in the new pit toilets. The NFS website hasn’t confirmed the dates yet but it says that the plan is do it June to August.

So it looks like we need to change the dates, move the location or cancel this years trip. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Bummer. Do you know the extent of the closure? Little Gold Lake too? What about camping at Tamarack?

Good and bad news...Glad they are improving though.

Any suggestion for a different venue with in the same area? It sucks if we have to cancel I would rather reschedule or find
a different spot.

If the group isn't too big, Tamarack lake will be a nice alternative. It's right at the base of the buttes, so you could still make trail runs to deer lake and the buttes lookout.

Just follow the green line on this image.

@The Machinist thanks for chiming in Darrell, how big of a group are we talking here in terms of vehicle and people?

Should we take a vote if we should keep the date and change venue or just reschedule when they are done with the new facilities?
I can go both ways I just need to know ahead of time. @SIZZLE Could you follow up on the dates of the repairs if you could?

Personally, I think this event is all about the location, so I'll cast my vote for rescheduling in August, if that's possible.

Here is the NFS website that mentions the closure without specifics.

Plumas National Forest - Gold Lake 4x4 Campground

I spoke to Jane who was told the plan is to close it down in a couple weeks and have it shut down for 2 months. Meaning there will be no bathrooms until sometime in September.

I already have the time off so I will probably go somewhere else but I don’t know where yet. Maybe just do some exploring.

Well it looks like I'll go ahead and stay with family at Pinecrest lake that weekend. The Niagara Rim trail is nearby on hwy 108, I've been wanting to try that one, if you or anyone wants to join me.
