 Thanks for waiting...... :D

You guys owe me a few caffeine-free Diet Coke's for this. :flipoff2:

The "instrument assist grip" for '90-'95(Jan) in bluish-gray trim1 is: 74670-60020-03

And whatever the "sable" trim 4 is: 74670-60020-06

And for '95-96 (Aug) in "bluish-gray" is: 74670-60040-B0

And for "oak" is: 74670-60040-E0

But the post '95 models in the US came equipped with dual airbags, so the latter two numbers are not any good for you guys (some didn't in Japan, hence still the grab bars).

And I don't know what the "sable" color is, but that was the only one available, except the "bluish-gray" color. Could it be "oak"?

Anyway, hope let me know if you are (un)able to get it from your local Toyota dealer (good luck) or CDan.

Yours truly,

Mot

Mot, I have checked with CDan on this before, and since it was never a US market part, he is unable to obtain it. At least that's what he told me last I asked. That is the reason SOR can charge nearly $100 and still sell them, since it is seemingly a JDM/OZ part.

Interesting. I must have some kind of bastard rig? Mine is 12/94, but has dual airbags, and it looks like it would work, though it's different than $OR's picture Here (and what's up with brown being more expensive? Racists  ;) )

Here's what my dash looks like. Are the later '95's with dual airbags different? Not sure why y'all say they won't work with airbags?

Pink panty 95' with the dual airbags, now they want an oh s*** bar

I've seen the dash grab bar mounted on a 95+ dual airbag dash before. I'm not sure how or why, maybe Toyota offered the newer dual airbag dash in some markets without the passenger side airbag ?

FWIW, with the grab bar located below the airbag, the passenger risk breaking his/her hands and fingers when the airbag deploys. The only vehicle I've seen with passenger side airbag and grab bar are on the GM van/trucks. On the GM vehicles, the grab bar is located above the airbags.

Mot, just hurry up and tell us if we can source it from you for less than $OR...:D

Hold your horses! :flipoff2:

If I can get them locally (no shipping to my place and wire transfer/C.O.D. fee, etc...) I could get one shipped to your door (slowboat) for $75-ish including a very small( ) fee. :flipoff2:

If I can't get them in town, then I'll have to pay about $20 per order (whether I get one or ten) for wire transfer/C.O.D. and shipping (to my place).

Why I can't get them locally, you ask?
Because here you almost always have to show a proof of ownership of the vehicle you are ordering parts for at the time of order. But I have found someone online that is willing to sell me some OEM parts although I don't have a Cruiser.

And as Ary has mentioned, they do not want to sell any parts if they are going abroad where those parts were not originally designed/intended to be used. I was asked if I was going to install the side-marker lights I was buying for my own rig when I purchased them last time. ;p

It would certainly raise a red flag if I walked up to the counter and ordered half a dozen "Oh-s***!" handles for different years of Cruisers and in two different colors and tried to convince them that they were all for me. ;)

Anyway, the grab bar price is cheaper for the newer 80 by about $8, if that matters to any.

So I'm still not sure if they would work for those with dual airbags or not. I'll have to check online to see if I can get any pics of the dash from different years to verify.

Anyway, how many of you are serious about getting them? Because obviously, more the people, cheaper the fee/shipping (to my door) would be per person.

Am I confusing most of you?

Let me re-cap, it's going to be around $75 (locally) or add a little extra if I had to mail-order them. Maybe not worth it to some of you?

Before I can get all excited, I'll have to confirm if I can get them from either one of the places, I guess. :o

Please give me some feedback though.

Oh, and Ary, I can give you a poor-college-with-good-looking-cousins discount. ;)

Mot :)

EDIT: I'll try to press my luck tomorrow with the local dealer and the Toyota parts warehouse tomorrow. :)

I've got the grab bar on my OZ spec 97 which seems to have the newer dash but definitely has no airbags.

By the way it's a nice feature. Worth it for the little coin it takes to add it.

They are worth every penny they really make the ride more comfortable for the passenger by giving them something to hold on to on the rough stuff. I was in a Nissan Patrol on the weekend with no bar and I was spotlighting out the window and found it hard to to stop bouncing around. Maybe I'm just spoilt fom having one in the Cruiser and using it. They also help when the Missus is short she uses it to get in as well

Ary,

All the numbers I got/get are for the RHD/JDM models.

And I have no idea if you need to flip them around (or even then whether it'll work or not). I imagine (read: ASS-U-ME) since the bar did not seem like it was offered in countries with LHD 80's (I'm probably wrong) and that SOR sells them, it/they would work, but not sure if the SOR ones are for post- or pre- '95.

I've asked a guy with a parts 80 if his has the bar and if he is willing to part with it cheap if any of you are interested (I think the color is gray).

BTW, Ary, you've got PM. ;)

Mot :)

I still don't get the airbag thing. On my dash, the bar would go well below the bag opening. Does it interfere with the bag's deployment path downwards? Is there parts of the airbag system behind the dash where it would bolt? Or is this all just speculation?

Here is a pdf of post '95 model catalogue:

http://landcruiser80.com/pdf/publish/accessories_lated.pdf (Page 5?)

You can see that the model does not have airbags. So I'm thinking if you have airbags, you can/should not do this mod.

Is this what yours looks like David?

I've looked high and low  for pics of the bar/dash, but could not find any with airbags AND the bar.

Yep - my dash is the one in the second pic.

Guys,

Please let me know if any (more) of you are intersted in getting these bars.

Since there are three or four of you that are interested, I have opted (for now) to contact the new OEM parts guy (whom I have not dealt with before, but has positive feedback) and give him a chance. I sent him an e-mail last night asking for quote for the bars.

Just as a recap, I have the following individuals that are serious about getting them:

-Ary ('94 with Gray)
-Tucker ('94 with Gray)

-re_guardian ('95 with Oak)
-clownmidget ('97 with Oak)

Let me know if I have missed any of you (or have the wrong year and/or color info.) or if any of you have changed your mind.

re_guardian,

I "believe" I have not received a PM from you confirming your interest. So I would not place your order until I receive a confirmation from you to make sure.

Also I will not place others' order until I hear back from the guy and let you know the exact price and you are OK with it and stuff. Unless he jacks up the price too much we should be able to stay close with the original target price of $75-ish, give or take a few. You can decide then. We'll see....

Thanks for your patience.

Mot ;)
