I have my flares off. I am now confronted with rivets and solidly mounted rectangular pieces of metal where the flares used to connect. How do I remove them without irreversibly damaging/tearing the metal off? Thanks!

Are you just talking about on the rear doors? If so you can drill the rivets out. I am pretty sure you can get behind the square pieces from inside the rear door or cargo area, it has been a while since I did it.
Drilling the rivets is the smart way. I used a grinder to remove the tops, then pounded what was left with a center punch. When the grinder caught just a little too much, I scuffed the paint next to the bracket.
I just drilled mine out and they came out easy. A sharp bit helps so your bit doesn't run on you and screw up your paint.
