Doing a little configuring with the dash I wanted to make. Keeping it simple stupid as they say. The main dash will have just a GARMIN ZUMO XT 2 GPS (IO use these on my adv. motorcycles) as they can take a real beating, and have never failed me. Also, all the hardware you see here came from BulletPoint, as I really liked their quality and modularity to add/move accessories around. So, on top of the GPS will have simple two cell phone holders, and two USC chargers below them.
Because this is a topless, diesel, I opted to NOT run a stereo/speakers set up as I didn’t want to tempt anyone from stealing that setup, and two, be removing stereo/speakers and all the wiring, etc that goes with it, trying to simplify it as much as possible. We I am going with is dual wireless/bluetooth headsets from CARDO that allow rider & passenger to talk easily over topless / diesel sound as well as share music, etc.
So, need some help here. In my build, I opted to go with the
City Racer Electric Steering Column. This is standard for FJ 33 Spline count, and the Wheel I got from
ICON 4x4 Steering Wheel is a 36 spline count. My question is simple. Is there anyone out there that knows of a 33 to 36 spline adapter so I don’t have to sell this wheel from ICON as they don’t take refunds once you purchase from them. I know, boneheaded move on my part, lesson learned, etc…just trying to see if there is a way to make a square peg fit in the round hole here. Any help, links, ideas are welcomed, and thanks all in advance.
Been a hot minute…got the dash mount configured and on the dash of the FJ. Happy with the turnout on this so far. Had a little fun with some 550 Cord as well…
Did some work on the fuel assembly as well. New tank, situated for Dakota Digital fuel sending unit for the DD aftermarket dash gauges.
And also upgrading the steering to 1 Ton Steering Rods. Maybe overkill, but the entire truck so far is, lol.
Had to get some new shock towers that accommodates the steering upgrade (1 Ton arms, 60 series steering box, etc.) Also, reworking the engine mounts for a cleaner look.
60 Series steering box. Fits very well, and plenty of room here.
Teaser of the next video to come. More pictures loading.
I suppose it's time for an update!
I decided the juice was in fact worth the squeeze to get Troyoda's steering as dialed as possible.
Box frame section to make all of the room and keep all of the strength.
Machined some sleeves to be as tight of a fit as possible. 2 sleeves through the box section and OG frame, and 2 sleeves above the OG frame. This is tucked as high as possible without going past 40% of the frame height overall.
One last check .
The most that this will see at full droop both wheels.
Neat!
That's basically it. A metric $HIT ton of work for such a small result. Will be immensely worth it.
I cant live with myself ..... Scrap it! Shoot me

Coming out just fine! Not my worst
All wrapped up, so stoked. Time to get knuckles, hubs, and wheel/tire back together. Shock towers/shocks next up for fitment.
Started the day off Saturday with making a new radiator support mount. Trying to make a 'bulkhead to carry all of the cooling parts and power steering reservoir for a clean package. Some alu Tig practice over the weekend.
Fender on for a clearance check, front core support will have to slide in to the engine to within an inch or so of the fan.
Deaeration tank fits nice here. Need to add 2 more bungs.
Lower rad hose will get fastened to the frame
Power steering hoses should slip through here perfectly to the PS cooler mounted below the FMIC.
Everything will have to go down on the frame, clear the pitman and then back towards the fan. No problem
Once we can get this buttoned up and pushed back, I will start to get the fenders back together for final fitment.
We were so close to cranking it up for the first time, but it was a miss. Time to try again.
