This is from Toyotas parts computer for 1989 TOYOTA 4RUNNER TRUCK (VZN110L-CRMGEK) can someone decipher the numbers for me.
I believe the last numbers read 4.10 and 4.56 what are the other numbers.
Which application would have the 4.10 and what has the 4.56 ratio.

FINAL GEAR RATIO=41:10=4.100
FINAL GEAR RATIO=41:9=4.556

The numbers are the teeth on the ring and pinion gears in the differential. So, in the first example, the ring has 41 teeth, and the pinion has 10 teeth. If you divide 41 by 10, you get 4.100.

Generally the the applications for 2nd generation 4Runners runs like this:
Stock tires, 5 speed trans: 4.10
"oversize" tires (31's), 5 speed trans: 4.56
Stock tires, auto trans: 4.30 (I think, might be 4.56)
"oversize" tires, auto trans: 4.88

I don't think the engine (22RE or 3VZ-E) makes any difference, but I may be wrong. Please correct me if you know!

I know there's some misleading information out there but yes 22re with an auto tranny do come with 4.56 gears

What KLF says is true, but ... I've seen exceptions at the boneyard. Mostly involving 31" tires on automatic trucks/4runners that have 4.56 gears, not the usual 4.88.

My trucks got 31's 4.56 gears and is an auto. With a 22re. I've mostly head the 3.0's having 4.88's if they're an automatic

Hmmm interesting thanks guys for the info.
I am surprised Toyota used 4.56 and 4.88 in a stock application usually I hear of guys regearing for bigger tires in the Landcruiser world you guys live in another dimension cool.

Can anyone tell me what my newly acquired 89 SR5 xtracab 4x4 5 spd would have.

dont know what tires mine came with from factory but i have a 3.0 & 5-speed.... 4.30 gears
