How many of you feel like I do that gas prices are REALLY going to cut into any wheeling this summer?

Would have loved to do the Miller's trip RFJTOY proposed, but that's approx. 2 tanks of gas for a day and at $4.39 a gallon now, that's approaching $200 for one day of wheeling.

Ouch!

Yep, It already has. The Cruiser is on lockdown right now. No runs planned for June. A trip can cost us $500 just in fuel right now. And that's not even going that far. It's out of hand. We might head out in July and take this month off to do some maintenance.

On our last trip we went on we had 1 month old fuel filled in all tanks. We saved a bundle!!! Cause the gas went up $0.30 in one month.

For me to really bitch and consider not driving my 80 is for the price to reach $5+ a gallon. Ill probably start looking for a job much closer to where I live. Driving to WLA already sucks and paying more than I want to will make it a grouchy work shift.

In terms of wheeling, if the weather is bearable and the destination is worth the drive, ill probably be there regardless of the gas price. Albeit I wont do it every week - maybe once a month.

And definitely at least once this year, I got to wheel with the SC80s San Diego Crew.

I hate when this subject comes up. It depresses me :(

I have the 80, and my wife has an FJ. She likes to wheel more than I do. We have broken up the runs this year that we are breaking up which truck goes. I have to ride shotgun with her for a couple, and vise versa. It would cost us over $300 to go to Miller in July with TTORA. IH8Gas

The "oil companies" say the increasing prices are due to the simple law of 'supply and demand'. Yeah right. I demand fuel, and they supply a kick to my nuts. :censor:ers

The last time I filled up it was $4.19 / gal. The very next morning as I drove by the same station, it had gone to $4.31. I couldn't believe how bad this has gotten.

At about 65 gallons every time I fill up, it hurts, but the price difference is bigger for each fill up - and I require 91 Octane. It's worth it to me to drive a little distance to find the low priced gas, but I won't run ARCO. Usually buy Chevron.

I check "gas buddy" frequently but luckily a good cheap station is close to the house.

Luckily the 80 is not my daily driver and I get paid mileage for most of the driving I do for work. I am still going to wheel when I get a chance even with the F'ed up gas prices. I will probably drive a lot slower getting to the trailhead though! :D

I spent ~7k on gas + fluids (Oil, diff, etc) last year and looking like ~11k+ this year and I only live 14 miles from work.

Both my trucks get ~12mpg so it does'nt really matter which one I take. The price of gas has more than tripled since I first bought my 80.

I really enjoy driving the 80 but considering the amount of driving I do planning on occasionally weekend only driving the cruiser by next year and getting a sports sedan with double the MPG. Until then I'm going on a bunch of trips this summer and enjoying :D

I couldn't agree more.

I don't understand what logic could "justify" billions in quarterly profits with gas prices the going up the way they are.

Im putting around 80$ in every 5 days or so, and I dont have another car. Im over it. I give in for now until im making more money this just isnt practical. There will be another time and another cruiser.:frown:

get all your trips in this year!
it'll be 7 bucks next fall, and 10 the year after that.

thanks duhbya. yer doin a hell of a job.

I hate the current gas situation as far as my cruisers go. No doubt.

But I don't think it's right to blame the oil companies. What are they doing wrong? They are selling a product that customer want for what customers are willing to pay, and try to make as much profit doing it as possible for their shareholders. Anything more american than that? Why is that bad if it's gas but great if it's soda?

Gas has gone up .50 cents here in Phoenix over the last two weeks, .19 in the last 5 days!

During this time a barrel has gone down 10.00!

I agree they have a right to profit, is 18 BILLION per quarter reasonable?

They are robbing us, if I have a commodity that is needed and I gouge that is wrong.

What are you talking about?? I can choose a 25 cent can of soda over a buck 50 can. In fact, I can choose not to buy soda at all.

Everyone needs fuel of one type or another and oil companies can charge whatever they want because we WILL BUY IT.

I blame the oil futures traders more then the oil companies themselves. Oil is a commodity, period. I've heard that the American people have driven 11 billion less miles over the past few months, thus lower demand. There goes the economic theory of supply and demand.

Did not Mr Bush run on a platform that included keeping fuel prices down? Wasn't 2.xx too high during his campaign?

Bill Mahr said and I paraphrase, If Colonel Sanders were the President and the price of chickens went up astronomically, would it be unreasonable to suggest something was amiss?

I agree that this is an issue driven (forgive the pun) by many forces but I really think if the government wanted to they could do something (release a fraction of the billions of gallons of oil we have in reserve?) for example.

I still see this everytime I go on a run....
