FZJ80 Driver's seat bracket made by Planted

I'd talked to Planted last year when I was contemplating a seat swap with BMW seats.

It was explained that their product is meant to match up to aftermarket seat suppliers (Corbeau, etc) and not retrofitting other car manufacturer's seats.

They said their base could be used as a starting point but would require additional fabrication.

Time constraints dictated that I drop the seat swap.

The build quality and fitment (mount location indexing) was all fine, I'm just questioning the "platform" that is created by the brackets themselves and curious if anyone else that used them in an 80 series felt the same way. I will talk with "planted" as well since they are local to me.

I fully understood what the brackets were intended to accomplish. The seats I have mounted for now are some 80's style Recaro copies from who knows where but are a "flat mount" seat.
If I decide to figure out the 5th gen Prelude seats, the Planted bracket will likely not be used for them.
I simply question my particular set of planted brackets. (They are made to order unless they happen to have a set sitting on the shelf), so there is always the possibility that the welder grabbed the wrong "feet" when assembling them.

I went with them to install some Audi S4 Recaros

@Brodie Those are pretty. I spy a disco cup holder as well. Did you place a little shim of material under the cup holder bottom where it rests on the center console or does it sit pretty "square" as is?

I think the planted brackets look like a good solution. I get lost in the maze of what seats fit how well, and I personally would not bother installing any seats which do not have integrated armrests. That lack of armrests is one of my biggest beefs with the 80 Series cockpit.

Oddly I didn't need to since it came with a rubber grommet that did the trick. I've had it in there for 9 years and ordered the set (came with 2 holders) from Atlantic British which was a "total install kit", I'm not sure if the kit they sell now has the same little grommet anymore tho, it's been a while.

I just used these planted brackets as they came with newcerullo performance leather seats. far and away by a lot, better than corbeau brackets closer to factory just a little more modern. they are super sweet. long story short.

Ok.
I brought my factory drivers seat back in from the garage tonight and finally used my other Gamiviti seat gear.
I may have to use the 80 as my daily for a week or so as the Tundra got rear ended.
Anyway here is a photo of my “rear sloped planted bracket.” As you may guess a slanted bracket and a slightly sloped (as most are) seat that will not sit fully upright leads to a very strange driving position.

I have a Planted bracket with a Scheel-Mann seat. The quality of the bracket is good but mine slopes rearward like yours and I do feel like it creates a weird driving position. I wish there were a way to level it out a bit more.

Anyone know if these will work with the latest generation of Jetta seats? We rented one awhile back and the seats were super comfy, and all manual adjusting. Which I love.

@jmkfzj what I tried with mine were steel machine bushings under the rear feet. Most decent hardware stores should have them. I think I used 1/4" ones. This does force you to source slightly longer rear mount bolts though. I think Home depot has the bushings, but called steel spacers instead.
@mjosoba I can be of no real help, but I'm learning that any time you are in a "new" vehicle to you and you really like the seats, take some measurements. It will let you (and potentially others) know how difficult the seats may be to swap. VW seats in general seem to be well regarded especially the earlier generation Golf and Jetta Recaros. Unfortunately you will be competing with the VW people who are also hunting for the Recaros.
@mryanangel yeah, these weird recaro copies I have probably would be a lot better if they had 1 or 2 more upright positions. They do not though and I would have to lift the rear of the planted bracket about 1-1/2" to compensate.

Great info. Going to give it a shot. Thanks @MrMikeyG
