The front shot gives a good how wide the tires are and the type
of stance it give the LC. It's an aggressive look.

These are pics from early last year when the tires were relatively
new. Maybe a month old. My rig looks totally different now.

Thank you for taking the time. I like the stance on the vehicle. I might eventually visit another firestone location because the gentleman [use the term loosely] is not budging on price. $200 per tire regardlless of internet pricing and factoring in shipping.

There are a bunch of Discount Tire/Americas Tire stores in your area, they usually have the lowest price (by far) around here, and I called alot of chain stores and independent stores last time I was tire shopping. They will price match Costco etc. I would bet they will beat Firestone, usually they give me a quote over the phone in a matter of a minute or less.

Yesterday I had to make a decision so I finally picked up a set. I did not get what I wanted from Firestone. They were overcharging so I decided to try a few other shops. My final stop was discount tire. They were professional and I decided to replace my tires with the existing stock Michelins. The price was considerably less and I got the fourth tire for 50% off. The ride was much improved and 99% of my driving is highway. I feel lousy for spending so much of everyone else's time providing their feedback and not trying something bigger. I do feel in the end I made a wise decision since the vehicle is my DD and most of my driving is highway specific. I swear if I lived in Oregan or any other scenic place I would go nuts with the mods.

I took the least popular path but the forum was instrumental. I have a three month old and a three year old that ultimately influenced my decision. I am thinking about trading in my fiance's T-Bird coupe and getting her something with four doors.

You got some good discussion going so nothing is wasted. IMHO you made the right choice, too, considering your usage. No need for "poser" tires if you aren't going to use them (Ahem...Tyler? ) and they are the safest choice for your family, as well. You might want to consider new Toyota LC shocks if you are concerned about the side-to-side swaying motion, but as I said this will make the ride slightly firmer.

Thanks one and all. I feel good about the decision and appreciate all the support. I look forward to living vicariously through others in their off-roading expeditions. This community is unique in its own right. Thanks for making feel like a member of the family despite the fact I didn't go bigger. I may crawl before I walk and start with the removal of the running boards once I get my fiance in a four door.

FWIW: Discount tires was a very good experience. I visited Firestone [$$$], NTB, Tirebarn, Sears [pathetic] and took the recommendation of Firetruck41. I must say disccount tires in Homewood, IL. provided excellent pricing and they empowered people to make deals. At Firestone I was left with the "I have to talk to my boss/used car salesman" impression.

I recently bought my Nittos from Discount Tire. My local shop resisted matching internet pricing, but they eventually came around to a better price (although not as low as I've heard others get for the same tire).
Thier lifetime "certs" guarantee free tire replacement for the life of the tire. As near as I understand, that means that I could drive them the wrong way through a a one-way tire shredder and they'd replace them (I think).
They also charged me to mount and balance them, but others have had it done for free. I think the pricing and flexibility varies from dealer to dealer.

Where the "lifetime of the tire" is defined by the tire manufacturer? Is this "lifetime cert" free? Anyone on the west coast know if our version of "Discount Tire" (called "American Tire") operates the same way?

However, thier free flat repairs last for as long as you own the tires. I assume thier replacement certificates are similar. I'll check my certificates when I get back in my truck.

Are they free? In as much as it says FREE on the sales receipt, yes. Will they use it as value to leverage against matching a lower price? Possibly, they did with me.

Unless you bought the hazard insurance, you don't just get a free tire every time you trash one. The "certs" are a prorated replacement.

Lifetime Balancing and rotation was $11.00 for each tire.

The lifetime repairs/insurance no questions asked was a little over $25.00 per tire. I opted to take my chances with the manufacturer’s warranty.

The extended or manufacturers warranty involves incidental damage to the tire and was no additional cost. For this warranty the tire replacement cost is prorated. I paid $133.87 per tire when it was all said in done not including the environmental fees which totaled $10.00.

I believe the replacement of the tire certificate only lasts for the life of the tire and not beyond. I believe the benefit is based on the premise that you can do whatever you so choose to the tire and they will replace without dispute.

Yeah. After a look at my receipt, the certificates cost me $22 per tire. The warranty covers the tires for 50,000 miles (more miles than I'll get out of them, I bet), free replacement, no questions asked.

Worth $100?
Maybe, maybe not. But I only have to ruin one tire to pay for the insurance.

Now, I need to actually take my new tires off road...

Just called my local America's Tires, they agreed to match TireRack's price ($168) plus shipping ($20/each) - making the 285/75/16D Revos approximately $188/each+ tax. This shop even has the Hunter GSP9700 machine.

Another less reputable shop (closer to home but I don't really trust them - incompetent technicians...) quoted me $930 for a set of 5, mounted and balanced - also has the GSP9700 machine...

I'm still undecided as which one I should go to (the current Michelin CrossTerrains are 50Kmiles+ old)...

I think they look great, sure 35's would look nice, but I can't take the hit on gearing right now.
