If we wait to ask for cash after the parts get made we'll be left "holding the bag" on ALOT of parts!

You may be right. We just need to find a way to convince vendors we are not trying to abuse them.

With vendors we can have them sign a contract but that's a little tough with several dozen folks spread around the world. I think we will need to trust folks like say Marv at Spector that if he says he can sell widgit A, that he will buy it on an agreed upon price once it is made.

The first few parts runs may be "gentlemens agreements" with the vendors but once they understand we're simply making parts to keep our own trucks alive and selling them the rest we should be good.

Well? back to one of the first steps is defining the goal.
1) Just parts for us per project?
2) Or production of some excess percentage that expands a kitty, hits an efficient buy in quantity/price ratio of production and ergo generates materials for Pig Owners via selling excess production to external vendors?

I have not had a lot of reading time...but I am not seeing a definitave consensus here?

i'd like to see a few extra for those that aren't in the ppg or even on mud (or if someone doesn't have the money at the time...ie me), but maybe we should talk to a few vendors ahead of time to make sure there's interest in purchasing our left over stock.

this could be done on a case by case basis also.

We do this and we start to move into the realm of vendor and potentially offending those we hope to sell our excess to. If a PPG member wants a certain part and is tight for cash then debit his "account" and hold the part till he has the cash. I think it needs to remain a closed group and if you're not in the group but you want one then the vendor who has our excess makes a sale and says "Gee, that was smart of me to by that repro stuff for '55's! I'll buy the next lot as well!".

We sell outside the group and the same vendor will not be nearly as kind!

This is something that I'm having to work through with the FJ45LV right now. Eshan says he'll make rear quarter panels but he needs at least 5 committed buyers. Folks say they are interested but when you start to follow through the interest seems to wane.

yeah...treeroot had tons of "buyers" for 45lv floors...last time i was there, one came through...he's still got 9 of ten floors.

when most companies produce parts, they send a sample. we can use that to show the vendors the quality of the parts and let them determine how many they want before we place the order. we can acquire pricing per off of the ppgs desired amount, then, any discount for quantity can go to the pot for the next purchase.

A very good Mud person I think. He let me know the status of that earlier this year...people confirmed their commit to him and then didn't pay when it came time. I was at the time addressing the issue of floors with Ehsan and Paul who were both willing to work with Mud but needed some real commitment. but we digress.

Charles seems to have it nailed.

John, another reason for the "cash up front" is Iggies observation of Mike's issue with LV floors (I'm glad I'm on record as saying my FJ45LV floors are OK as is!!).

We CANNOT be a parts warehouse. If we do that I'd just as soon bow out now as I don't have the time for that B.S.!

I guess a good way to look at it is many of the "specialty" group buys either do not get off the ground or the "go to" person is left "holding the bag". Don't kid yourself, this is really just an ongoing group buy among '55 enthusiasts.

If it is still a put the money up before a part is produced, I see no difference between the PPG and the many "group buy" projects that have happened.

parts warehouse!

yep; can't be parts repository.....several of us had the same experience with the tailgate and window regulator rubber; lots of inquiries but only about 60% sent cash; better than treeroots only 10%:frown: that sent cash; our experience was that the manufacturer was not interested in short runs as the cost of setting up for a short run of 100ft was the same as setting up for 10.000; so they required a minimum number payed for in advance; might be different for sheetmetal or rubber mouldings but this was the experience with rubber extrusions...guess we should look at it as a group buy with any left over to be sold to outsiders to try to break even or at least to bring our costs down...just my thoughts:hhmm:
