I just swapped out my tired F motor, in my '74 fj55, for a freshly rebuilt '86 2F motor. Everything back together now, attempted to fire, but no gas. Is there a difference in the fuel pumps for the F and the 2F? If so, mine currently has 2 lines feeding the carb, any ideas on which carb to order? thanks.

How long did you crank it? For some reason on 55's it takes a long time for the fuel to get into the pump and up to the carb. I found a little fuel poured in the bowl vent to fill it up will usually get the motor running long enough to prime the system.

I believe there is a diff in the pumps, maybe trollhole can confirm. The pump on my 86 has a return on it so I don't have to plumb the return at the carb, I can plug it. The early pump does not have the return port. I have been dreaming about a TH carb myself...

I cranked for quite awhile. I had gas free flowing into pump from the tank, but none coming out of the exit side of the pump. The pump is off of my f motor, do i need a different fuel pump for the newly installed 2f motor? I didn't know if there was a difference in the fuel pumps themselves or if it were just in the plumbing lines at the pump. And yes, i do have the spacer in between the pump and the block.

I am using the pump for the 86 ON the 86. My carb is a 77. I want to say the pump is different....there are four different listing for the models between 73,77,80, and 83. HTH.

just by accident did you hook the feed line up to the return port on the pump?

if during the rebuild of the engine did they leave the spacer off the pump, thus breaking the arm and ruining the pump?

is it a known good pump?

you should have no problem using the 86 setup if functioning properly, or maybe you can use the 77 pump on the 86 block??

I think he is using the older pump- the one off of his f motor.

I think i read somewhere that some pumps are interchangeable providing that a spacer pump retains the spacer and the non spacer pump does not use a spacer, but I don't know enough on that. Are you running the older pump mounted over a spacer? I KNOW that an 86 self regulating (w/return nipple on pump) pump works on an 86 block, and feeds my 77 carb. I do NOT know if the earlier pump will work off the 86 block. I second the question on whether or not the pump in question is a known good pump. When I swapped in my 86, I put the 77 intake on the 86 exhaust, kept the 77 carb as I'm in Cali, plugged the return port on the carb and kept everything else off the 86. I never pulled the pump assy off the 86 block. I think the return from the pump is way cleaner. I would put the correct pump assembly for that year motor on it, IMO.

Yes, it was a pefectly functioning pump on the f motor. Now I'm attempting to use the f pump, with spacer, on a 2f. I saw on manafre that there are 2 listings for pumps. I didn't know if it was the arm going to the cam difference or if it were just a difference in the return lines on the top of the pump. Jim C where are youuuu????

I think the spacer on your old pump may be the problem....I think it's in the FAQs on the 40-55 tech. I'll be back.

old two port pump, no spacer; newer three port pump, spacer. On 40-55 tech find fuel pump compatibility or 76 fuel pump on 85 block.....Take your spacer out so the arm of the pump can ride on the cam
