Front Tube Bumper In A Collision?

ARB is the only company I know of that crash tests their bumpers. They are designed to absorb impacts to avoid damaging the frame. A lot of aftermarket bumpers are super stout, but in an accident, what do u want to bend? The bumper? Or the frame? A buddy of mines wife crashed their 80 into another car. The ARB bent into the grill and fender. He bent the arb back, fixed the body damage, and the 80 is still used off-road. The arb looks like its been through an apocalypse, but he still uses it.

I appreciate the replies guys.

@Romer has a excellent story about one of the kids in his old 450 who was in a weird off angle accident.

Seems like it ended with some smudged powder-coating on the ARB & whatever the passenger car was, totalled due to major skin damage.

He can chime in, that's all I really remember of it.

That's funny, had the exact same thing happen to me in my old Tacoma. Not a scratch on my tube bumper, lots of damage to the back of the other car. Sadly they drove away before I could get any photos.

Edit: was trying to quote wpns4l

X2

I bought my ARB specifically because my kids were going to learn to drive in my 80. My primary concern was for the safety of the passengers and then the protection of the vehicle. I was a passenger in a 1957 Chevy pickup when we were involved in a collision. A car turned in front of us and we hit it broadside at about thirty miles an hour. The truck and its bumper had barely any damage, My head went thru the windshield and the driver broke his hand and a few ribs on the steering wheel. No crumple zones, no seat belts, the truck stopped and we kept moving.

Since installing my ARB;

I have hit a small deer, about 150 lbs., at 50 MPH. The bumper worked as designed by throwing the animal down and out away from the truck. No damage to truck or bumper at all.

I put the cruiser in a ditch while snow wheeling and the ARB hoop was supporting most of the weight keeping the fender from being crushed. Other than a couple scratches no damage to the bumper or the fender.

My 16 year old daughter rear ended a Ranger pickup making a perfect impression of my winch fairlead rollers in the tailgate before the tow hook eyelet caught on his trailer hitch and pushed him thru the intersection. Pushed the whole bed of the pickup into the cab and essentially totaled the truck. The eyelet on the ARB is bent and I got some of the other guys paint on my rollers.

I understand that its not what all the kool kids are wearing these days but it works so well especially considering how light it actually is I think ill keep it for now.

Yup. After that my wife never complained about buying armor

She was sitting at a Red light when two cars careened into each other and one bounced off and into my car. The damage from the front hood all the way back is from hitting the bumper and sliding past

No, but it proved to me the value of the ARB Bull Bar. Thats why I have gotten the Bull Bar on the new trucks I buy and the ones my daughters have. After this, front and rear bumpers are a requirement in my wife's view. That is worth more than a can of paint! :D
