Rebuilt the front axle last weekend and installed a set of 50mm Slinky's while I was in there. Looking at the FSM (after the fact, oops) it appears that one of the PO's had installed a spacer. Which has a large split in it.

Two questions, 1) is this in fact a spacer and 2) how much of a split is too much?

(I also realize that the coil appears to have squished down on itself, presumably because of the split?)

That is not meant, to be used like that, it is a coil spring helper, and you are asking for trouble to run those

Yeah, been looking at other pics in recent threads. Will be taking them out since they are not original. Oddly enough though, the did provide the expected amount of lift with them in...

Thanks for the conformation!

I was thinking of using them to until I looked at the split :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Yeah, they were not split like that previously. At least not nearly as much. Was checking everything for tightness after getting a few miles on her and noticed that. Which probably explains the twang sound I get from time to time when going over large bumps.

They are made that way, to be wedged between, coils kind of like helpers for coils, they probably spin/spun around
