Just finished a desmog on my 87 - 60 series and truck is running better than ever. Still has a small idle problem. It idles better now than it did. No intake leaks. I removed the Fuel Cut solenoid to inspect it and it is working but found that the o-ring is missing. Do I need the o-ring on there and/or should I just ground the white wire so it is always on, or does it matter ?

You need the O ring. Make sure it's not stuck in the Air Horn.

If everything is working and ECM is still present, decel circuit is a nice feature.

Millions of carb'd vehicles have run without a decel fuel cut. Grounding the white wire is fine if there's issues with something in the circuit.

Got an OE smog pump core you want to sell, now ? :D

I prefer to keep it hooked up and functioning properly. Keeps high vacuum during deceleration from pulling extra fuel into motor that won't get ignited (closed at rpm above 1800 and vacuum above 13.97 in.Hg). If that o-ring is lodged in there like SpikeStrip mentioned, that may be the cause of your idle issue.

Ok. Got ya. Now, can you suggest a way to get it the heck out of that passage?...I have some locksmith tools I may be able to get in there, but is that a open passage for fuel or does it bottom out and fuel flows across? I do not want to do more damage trying to fish it out? Im sure I can find an o-ring that will work.

And Crap, the carb is back on the truck (obviously). I removed the solenoid when I started diagnosing further and when removed, no o-ring.

Time to take the carb off again it looks like. I think the way it functions is there is small plunger on the ICS that is energized and moved out of the way to allow fuel to flow. Get those locksmith tools in there and pull that baby out. May also spray some carb cleaner and compressed air through the passage.

Got it... Small hook in kit and compressed air. It was actually stuck to the bore like glue and split when I took it out. Got a new o-ring that fits. Siliconed and put it back in. Idles even better now. Thanks folks
