One more photo of the front shock to inner upper control arm clearance...

So is the strap to stop the shock popping or to stop the top ball joint breaking?
What are you going to do on the rears to stop the shaft being peppered by gravel/rocks and then leaking like a sieve?
What is the total travel front and rear now?

The limiter strap protects the ball joint.

I asked about the rock spray beating up the shock and was told it won't be a problem: Hard SS shafts. However I may end up fabbing a rubber guard to divert the spray from the front tires...can't hurt! I did see several larger Fox shocks (3.5") that came off a couple race H2's they had in the shop. And the shocks on those rigs were exposed to some serious rock spray and they seemed to hold up fine. But again...I think I'll be fabbing something for piece of mind.

I don't know the actual travel differences. I forgot to ask him to measure this pre/post...however the front has approximately an additional 35-40mm of droop that I didn't have before! That will allow me to get the front end up just a tad more than I could before. If the upper control arms that are being developed will be affordable...that'll be additional down travel that I'll be able to get...since the shock is capable...just change the limiter strap.

Dan,

So those must be the 6.5" travel shocks in front but what length did they use in the rear? 10"?

How does the body roll compare to the OME's?

Are the torsion bars still on the front? I did not see them in the pictures.

Thanks,

I'm fairly certain they are the 6.5" and 10"...however Sam's wife takes care of the receipts and she was packing for a camping vacation...and the Fox boxes, which I have, don't list part #'s. I should have the part #'s sometime next week.

With the stock valve settings body roll is similar...maybe slightly more than the OME's. However when I would do a quick "S" maneuver at speed the OME's rebound valving added too much dampening and delay IMO. The Fox shocks are much faster in this regard...so the front end particularly is much more supple and faster cycling from rebound to compression than the OME's...so the roll is not objectionable like it was with the OME's. However I want mine set-up for more off-road tune...but one could tune these, according to Sam, to be whatever you want to reflect individual tastes and also to compensate for weight of vehicle too.

i noticed an ATS4X4 ad (advertisment) in an Aussie magazine mentioning these Fox Shocks....so now i have 2 choices :D Bilstein and Fox!!!

A local place i know recommends Konis, but they do a lot of Nissan Patrols, LC105s and not many IFS 'cruisers , so they're a little biassed.

Anyone here tried the dual bore Konis ?? (yes i searched the forum for Koni). I can phone em and get the exact model if necessary.

thanks in advance

I don't know about Koni's and Billes outside of the USA (very limited availability here especially for lifted/longer travel shocks)...but the nice thing about the Foxes is their vast selection of various lengths, diameters, etc. Plus they are tunable and rebuildable.

Nice work on fitting the Fox shocks  My only comment would be the rear lower mounts. They'll be hit on the rocks so if it were me I'd look into some type of guard/skid similar to what All Pro Offroad is doing for the FJC's.

And John, you are still full of BS.

I know. :D I just don't like my LX450.

OK, to non-BS......the sound of a better quality shock sure sound good to me. I am a bit concerned about those lowered rear mounts. Stock they are well protected. Exposed...hmmm. They are going to catch rocks. Do you think protecting the mount can secure it from damage?

That's a great idea: Thanks! I'm with you on the guard...now that you've given me the spark I'll start getting something designed to protect the lowers.

thanks spressoman..i'll have a chat with the guys that are local to me next week and get their opinion and make up my mind on what i do next.
cheers

Well...I'm going to find out! No doubt it would be better tucked up higher ala stock...but there's always a compromise of some type on mods. We'll just have to see how big a negative it is on the trail. But I am going to fab a guard to at least better protect it from hits...

It may not be much of a negative at all. Ya catch and ya drive over. No biggee. It's like rubbing your diff. My concern is ripping the shock off the mount. Do those FJC guards actually work?

Spressomon what valving are you running and do you see the need to make any adjustments.

Right now just the out of the box tune. It, for lack of the proper terminology, feels more like independent 4-wheel suspension now...a bit more 'active'...sorta the same feeling that removing the sway bars have...except this is controlled. I need to get it off-road with and without the trailer to see how it'll be. But I surmise it's going to be significantly better than the OME's without any tuning time.
