Some teasers...

Basic Plan:
gut interior
delete mid step-outs
replace floor pan and wings
bright floor covering
redo galley/control panel
replace curtains
replace canvas
for now, I'm going to just do a shell.
Ill make a slide out bench for the lower bunk, and rebuild the upper bunk. neither bunk will get foam yet; just indoor/outdoor carpet. I'll be hauling tools, materials, and dogs in this thing as well. keeping it a shell will allow for versatility.
this one was built June 28, 1983. Its got a 3 way dometic fridge, 2 burner propane stove, sink and cold water with 10 gallon tank, and a furnace. Prolly swap the furnace for a water heater and shower rig. it rode like a dream even tho it was hanging off the back. a pair of add a leafs and some shocks and all will be right in the world. I'm hoping I dont loose much mileage. it was not at all tippy. I got 3 weeks to get it reconfigured before the trip to the GC...more pics to follow.

Why isn't it all the way up against the cab? I'd suggest airbags. Took me a long time to realize the
value of that decision.

mid steps and furnace box kept it hanging out of the bed. Those items will be deleted and it will sit agaisnt the cab and about 5" lower

I second air bags, had a similar rig for a 93 4wd pickup. air bags really helped out in the bush. cool project. diesel conversion too?

Gotta figure out the best fix for the bent framing in the headboard. Also need to finish removing the fridge and furnace. Following that, the 3 step floor pan can be removed and a new 2 step pan installed. I’ll use frp to skin over the headboard and the upper bunk shelf. After the bottom half gets done, I’ll focus on a new galley and shelves, then turn my attention to the canvas and ceiling. Trying to keep the vintage skins on the sides and back, for patina. Sika flex will seal it all up. Hoping to get the floor pans off tomorrow...

you guys got any recs?

Call Hard to find fj55 weatherstripping parts
He lives just north of Pismo Beach

I tried to get mine on eBay but it didn't work. That seems to be how he sells them. So I phoned him
and he sorted it all out for me. The land cruiser version is the LA 09. it's a dual bulb set. Really easy to install
and set up. removing bumpstop bolts was the hardest part of the whole thing.
Edit: my issue was the shipping to Canada part. eBay had an issue with that. I think
down south it would be done deal.

All this in three weeks, better call in some troops. Good luck man, wish I was closer I'd be there with my bag of tools.

while I'd prefer to drink the beer, I wont stop you wearing it if that suits your fancy. ;)

I got the floorpan cut out; just got to glue it and staple it together, prime and paint it, then set the shell on it. After that, I'm going to do the canvas. Then its home sweet home... I got 16 days left to commission the shell...
