1973 Pig for Raffle

Hey everyone.

Well, it is time to tell everyone (even though I haven't been on in about a year or so and no one knows me, haha) that we are raffling off our FJ55. Why a raffle, you might ask? Well, my wife Leslie and I are hitting the mission field. We are leaving everything behind and selling all that we can. We are going to 11 different countries in 11 months and we are not able to pay for the trip without selling our house and vehicles. We are going to help with the povertous areas and slums of the countries. If you would like to check out our website for the trip, it is here.

We live in Greenville, SC and this is where the raffle would be.

That leads me to one of our Cruisers. We have two: a 1973 FJ55 and a 1987 FJ60. We love them both. Our 60 was the first and our favorite so we will keep her forever.

The 1973 has been rebuilt and she lacks a better paint job (although that one that is on it is amazing but it is not original), a new dash (has a million cracks, but most do), and she's got got some other minors that are just aesthetics.

I have a website of pics that you can go to but today all I am trying to do is get an idea of who would buy tickets for us to raffle our beast off. If there are any offers to buy her we would go with that as well. Right now we are just needing our money back (and we've put a steeping nearly 12k into her! ouch! My wife wan't happy, haha) and our debts gone so that we can go. We know that we would not get that much for selling her but the raffle might go well enough.

A little much? We think so, haha.

So here is the site for pics.

A beauty, huh? Got her from a great family in Raleigh, NC. Greg Gregg worked on her a good bit as well up in NC. He told me a while back that she was a 1.5F engine?? Never heard of it but he said to hang on to it. Guess I'm letting him down.

If you are interested in purchasing a ticket and getting more info about the raffle, please e-mail me at dsa03cjj@hotmail.com with the subject line of FJ55 RAFFLE - I'M IN! (Tickets are more than likely to be $50 or $100 depending on the amount of people). For someone to get this Pig for $50 would be amazing, and you'd be helping a great cause.

If you are interested in making an offer, please e-mail me at the same address with the subject line of FJ55 - OFFER! and I will get you more info about the cruiser. I have ALL paperwork for about the past 7-8 years or so. Did some digging.

**I RARELY GET ON SO E-MAIL IS THE BEST WAY TO GET ME, THAT IS WHY I NEED YOU TO E-MAIL IF INTERESTED IN THESE OPTIONS.**

Thanks everyone! Let me know!

**And if you think this idea is extremely stupid, let me know. I've been known to do stupid things. I appreciate feedback as well.**

I've got 2 Dayton Timberline M/T 33x12.50x15 w/ full 1/2 tread left, I'll take $50 for both.

As my wife would tell me I'm a "sure thing". I'll be happy to take em sooner if you're gonna be in the Atlanta area anytime soon. Perhaps Steenh or Rick can be a mule for me. :meh:

I would like an honest answer. I truly do.

I've had over 20 replies saying they would like to buy tickets. So, I'm somewhat on my way.

one guy mentioned to me that he raffled off a 40 years back and it went really well. hope the same for us.

I think your gonna be disappointed.

First you don't own a 40. It's a 55. They are by far the least desirable Land Cruisers. It takes a special person to want one.

Second 50 dollars is a really high amount. Most people won't spend 50 dollars on a ticket. If you make it 50 I wouldn't recommend changing it to anything higher or lower like you said you might. Nothing good will come out of it and you might end up in trouble by changing the price after the auction has started.
You might honestly be better off lowering the price. But if you do you will have to advertise the heck out of it.

20 people saying they would like to pay is a whole lot different than 20 who have actually paid. I'd maybe count on half of those to pay. Now if it's friends and family well that's another story. If so you need to ask yourself are they really wanting the vehicle or are they just wanting to help you.

You need to have a start and finish date. You cannot just say you will auction it off when you get enough money.

If you lowered it to 20 I'd probably buy a ticket as well as others. But at 50 I as well as other just don't want another pig or one pig that bad.

But heck who knows you might just get lucky and end up with half of what you have into it. Good luck.
