New to your site but have been following for a while here now. Excellent insights are here in abundance...

A friend turned me onto the Land Cruiser realm as I'm looking for our first LC/LX and want to be able to hand it off to my 16 year old once he has spent some time learning about his first set of wheels. I am looking for a father / son project to keep him in a vehicle for the next ~10 years or better if things go well...

Any thoughts would be well received here folks. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Cheers mates,
G

Well, if you're looking for a project an 80 series is definitely going to be that. If you're a fairly handy mechanical type and have some money to dump into it I'd say it's perfect. But, expect to put a lot of time and money into it, they're all old vehicles and many have been neglected so expect to do a lot of work. This doesn't mean there will be a lot, just expect there will be.

Thanks for the response, I'm not adverse to work nor spending money on goodness in the end... Sent you a message. Cheers, G

It's been a while... I've been lurking while my son worked through a lot of issues with a LR Disco II. We finally sold it and moved on to an '05 LX 470. An old friend upgraded to a '10 LX 570 and the timing was excellent. She's been garage kept from new in Virginia. This is going to be a blast.

Cheers mates,
G
