Thanks. It's been raining these past couple days so been putting off painting. That's when I saw that cool gray bumper. Throughout this build, I've been torn in between old vs new school. Love the original fj40 so much, I sigh everytime I make changes. My wife knows when my brain is pressing the clutch and so I told her about the bumper. She said," **** you've changed it so much why stop now. Think of yourself as the Toyota engineer who needs to present a 2011 fj40. It needs to be updated" I say nothing wrong with the stock. She said, "you're not representing a replica, otw you get fired !" Very well, I decide to change the bumper and took some measurements. Along with that, I remove the vent windows too. Can't wait for the sunshine now !! Reckon it's freezing this time of the year in midwest. Hate the snow at that time, miss it so much now :D

Here’s a bit update, was so busy with work and down w flu. To help the wandering FJ40 on the road, I decided to use steering box from 60’s. Was going to use the steering column from the 60’s as well, so the wiper and headlight knobs will move to column. But the column will be exposed and look ugly. Besides the 40’s column look really clean like in old trucks and that’s a real plus for me. So will only use the steering box and tierods from the 60 series.

This is the bumper I like, notice the angle around the corners. That’s good for two reasons: easy maneuverability, and help deflect bikers or people in case of accident. It took much longer time than expected to fab this bumper, but finally it’s identical to the gray one in the picture. Used plate thicker than the stock. Epoxy and ready to be painted.

Installed new front windows after removing the vents. Put on final coat on underbody and the rest of the car.

I like the look of earlier years oval bezel and needed a new bib. Luckily a buddy wanted to trade his oldies with my newer look. Also, the joint in roof has really dried out, so called guy who does the headliner. Told him I want some insulation to keep the heat and noise out. He put on some spongy stuff. Felt like latex. And let it still to dry out again before the final vinyl headliner.
