Another wild week, and the bumper sticker doing its job I guess. Also, I’m an idiot.

Running errands, I noticed the clutch was going to the floor, then it got harder to shift, then it got impossible to shift unless you were rolling and could float it in, so I broke the shift lever off where I had welded it. (94-98 dodges came with this weird curly que shape coming out of the tower, I cut and straightened it) Not a good weld. Like, if you saw it, you wouldn’t ride over black bear with me probably.

Anyway, towed home, and if I would have taken literally 10 seconds to check the loose linkage at the pedal it would have saved me the trouble.
But, in doing so, I ended up replacing the clutch master also, and when I took the old one off it turns out it was leaking, but I didn’t really know it because there’s a few seeps under this truck (it’s a Cummins, a few seeps is putting it nicely) and many things stay wetish. So I wouldn’t have seen it, and it may have failed me on the aforementioned black bear.
So that was worth the $45 tow bill. I guess. But I still feel like an idiot for not bothering with the “little” stuff.
Do you use Hagerty for your insurance?

Nope, they wouldn’t touch it.
Asked if it had bigger tires than original, ha! I didn’t bother trying to explain but this thing is built by hand from many trucks.
They do parade vehicles.
I know, I read everywhere that people think they’re good to go with them and others but I’m not sure they are.
Looked and called every possible company I could come up with. I was honest when they asked if I was going to drive it off road, heck ya. Also daily driving it was a huge nope.

So it’s “insured” with my agent that handles our farm, excavation business, big trucks, home and auto. So obviously we have a relationship. He saw it in the build process, knows all about it, know by “off road” I mean all the county roads around Ouray and Telluride. He’s good with county roads.
The other thing I did was spend some money on an appraisal. Guy did comps, I believe it’s worth more if I shined it up and put it on BaT but I can live with the number. And while technically it’s not insured for that all the different components listed in the appraisal are insured.
I hope I don’t ever find out.
I’ve told others I have the Bill Cosby philosophy - I brought it into this world and I can take it out. Meaning I built it once I can build it again.

I put insured in quotes above because I’m totally legal on the road, but it’s insured as a 1973 FJ40, and I’ll probably get 7k for it if I wreck it. That’s where the appraisal and component rider kicks in.

Sorry for the long answer, it just is what it is and hopefully it can help someone else down the road.
It was a very frustrating process.

I did the same.

Accepted my fate and put normal insurance on it. Enough to make everyone happy.

At the end of the day I’m responsible for it and if it gets totaled I’ll either battle it out or rebuild it.

I’m just worried about the other guy.
We live 10 minutes from the worlds largest soccer/baseball complex east of the Mississippi or something like that, and people from Illinois think everything is a 4 way stop even when it’s not. Plus we have this culture of very bad aggressive driving anyway. So hopefully they see me coming and my bumpers take care of it.

As far as insurance go's I have always run just liability to protect assets with a minimum of $300k in coverage with a umbrella on top.
Then hope for the best. Knock on wood it been working and at this point in life I have saved enough in premiums to neutralize any losses.
I do run full coverage on the tow rig as it was big $$

Interesting enough, my clutch pedal went to the floor a few weeks ago. Rough time for clutches!

Clutches? I have 4 of em. Is that normal?

I have safeco, they do classic vehicles. Didnt get many questions besides does it have the 6 cylinder, and I said yes, cause that's true. They just want it stored inside.

That answer would probably work for you as well @Ditcherman

I figure I’m either on my own, legal minimum and save the premiums like Broski said, do what I’m doing with ‘full coverage’ for not much more, or I want a stated value policy for the dollar about i want. Which I where I ran into the roadblocks.
If you total it, no one else’s fault, are you going to get paid for an old truck, or get paid 50-75-100k?

I'm a 70K no questions asked for value of the vehicle. Basically my parts cost it seems lol. I guess I do have a 5K miles a year restriction, but I'm usually nowhere nesr that.

Come to think of it I probably got some hard no’s when I said I wanted to daily drive it and most had a 5000 mile restriction. I didn’t know how much I’d drive it but I’m probably at 6000 in the first year.

Typical guy thing, miss the anniversary by 1 day…maiden voyage of a quarter mile down the road and back was a year ago yesterday.
I will say getting ready for SAS10 is a little different than last year.

You also forgot to plug your phone in. Ha!

A year ago I was still waiting for a soft top and making a mad dash to finish. All I have been doing lately is driving it to go fly my drone!

Might an went a did a thing

38x11.50r17 are tall and skinny, I can tell you that. Toyo RT pro.
Still trying to decide how bad the buyers remorse is.
I did get everything on sale, good prices in today's market. But they're going to take some getting used to.
Mathematically they worked out perfect, I wanted to lower my engine rpm at that 60-70 mph range about 200-250 and they do that, also geared better around town in the 20 and 30 mph zones, not screaming or lugging.
But still not sure if I like the look, and now I need bump stops. Lost significant flex. If I was in the mood to paint I'd just trim the fenders.

They look good ! I like tall skinny 😎
You will get used to the look.

I run 38 bias ply Maxxis at 13.5 on a 15 and really like it. If you don't mind, cost for these & from which vendor ? I assume they are radial ?
My local tire guy, at Carquest got them for me for 374 a piece mounted and balanced. Yes radial, didn't really need this aggressive tread but the RT Trails were 2 ply sideway, less lugs on the side, and 50-70 bucks more.

As @Broski mentioned above, I went from repulsed yesterday to "Meh, they're ok" today.

That’s a solid deal on those tires. What is initial impressions on road noises?

Better than they look, I guess I would say.
Quieter than my badly worn, not as loud as my ridge grapplers on my out-of-alignment tundra. Probably a bit louder than new ridge grapplers, but quieter than any MT tires I’ve had.
There is a slight hum when the engines quiet enough.
