Greg, if you guys get a big group package let me know and I will give you my fedex account. Our house does not accept UPS deliveries. Thanks.

Jeff, I think he does get Overland Journal. He gets toyota trails also. He has some guns and is an avid bow hunter. His dogs are also hunting dogs(bird and duck). I hope that helps give you guys an idea of interests.

Man I hate to hear that. Mark your on our prayer list at church. If you need anything just ask.

2 hunting dogs @ about 75lbs per each running 25 mph could do it for sure. Glad he was able to get back to safety and wasn't stuck out in some field.

I went and saw Mark today at the MED. He is in a lot of pain. He is going to have surgery on the right leg monday and hopefully be home at the end of the week. The incident could have been much worse if he did not have his cell phone on him. Thankfully he did and was able to call for help. He spent about 20 minutes in very cold temperatures waiting on the EMTs and 911 to figure out his exact location. An other owner of a dog who was exercising his dog at the same park helped the last few minutes of the ordeal.

Mark broke his legs about ten years ago, about the time I met him, so the surgery is that more complicated since they have to remove old rods and screws and add new ones. He has a lot of work in front of him but I have no doubt he is up to the task. He said to tell you guys hi and to thank you for the thoughts and prayers. I will keep you in touch. It will probably be awhile till he posts anything online. Take care.

Hey guys -

I appreciate everyone's prayers and thoughts. Mike nailed it pretty good...but, I will try to give the lowdown.

I have a bone disease called Osteogenisis Imperfecta (or OI) which causes my bones to be fragile. Thursday night, the coldest night of the year here in Memphis, I took our two dogs to a local park for some exercise. My wife (Randi) and I have 2 German Shorthair Pointers, Henry and Otis. Henry weighs 60 lbs and Otis weighs 68 lbs. They both can run in excess of 20 mph. We know this because we have had them chase the Landcruiser on my friend's hunting camp and they passed Randi driving at 20 mph.

So Thursday night I was out playing with the dogs. They started running at full speed and just having a great time. They really enjoy the cold weather. So, they were running together and at the last minute they turned toward me and I couldn't move out of the way. They hit me head on. I went up into the air and I landed on my stomach. Luckily I had my cell phone and was able to call an ambulance (my wife was at work and I didn't want to worry her, make her drive home too fast and her end up in the hospital next to me). I was taken to The Med which is the only shock trauma center in Memphis. The paramedics were worried they couldn't find a pulse in my left leg, which would mean that my femoral artery was cut or damaged. Paramedics acted quickly and were able to get me in the warm ambulance as I had started showing signs of hypothermia: uncontrolled shaking, chattering teeth, etc.
I have been diagnosed with two broken femurs. The one on the left was surgically fixed yesterday with a femoral nail (rod) and three screws. My right one was damaged pretty bad due to the previous hardware that is in there. Doctors are consulting on what path to take in the next surgery, scheduled for Monday. I have a bunch of stuff in the right leg...a femoral neck stabilizer, a flex rod, and a femur plate with 6 screws. The impact from the dogs was so strong that it bent my left femoral nail and messed up all the hardware on the right. So, I am in a little bit of trouble. In fact my wife had to help me type this since I am on some Morphine and Percocet. I appreciate everyone's prayers and thoughts. My wife set up a CaringBridge website where she is updating everything.

I am supposed to have my next surgery on Monday where they will hopefully fix the right leg. I am going to be in a wheelchair for at least 3 months and then hopefully get back on my two feet. Since I have OI it makes everything a little complicated. So, please keep me, my family, the doctors, and the staff at the Med in your prayers.

Thanks again for everything. I am in room D514 at the Med if anyone wants to visit.

nom nom, morphine.... it got me through sooo many months.
Man I know how badly it sucks to be laid up and in severe pain, but hang in there, the alternative could be alot worse...
This group here is so awesome and believe when they say "what can we do for you?" because they'll do it.
So, let us know what we can do for you and your family.
More prayers for your strength are coming now.

Interesting tidbit I learned from my wife, when she worked in the pharmacy at the Med...

When you get checked in, if they ask if you are an alcoholic or drink everyday or something along those lines... say YES. They stock beer in the pharmacy and will prescribe it to you. It is the cheapest crap you can imagine, but who could refuse medical beer??
