If we lived in the right part of the world, we could still get a brand new one of these:

The true heart of the 40 series lives on in the 70 series, IMO.

How about we agree it doesn't have Toyota quality.

We have achieved consensus!

Yes. Some consider the Mega Cruiser as the ultimate Land Cruiser though, like anything else, there is disagreement. Most Toyota lovers would agree that it is exceptionally kewl though.

I still maintain that a near stock FJC (3" lift, 35's, sliders/bumper) is more capable than any previously released US LC.

And I maintain that the FJC is the most capable 4x4 under $30k currently sold by Toyota in the US. I could be wrong, but that's why it's just my opinion. :D

I believe the FJC is a good combo of flexability, clearance, app/dep angles, wheelbase and traction aids to be up there.

Agreed! :D

I love the FJC and they are a lot of fun on the trail. I've wheeled with the Trail Team on 2 days in Moab and for 2 days at a local event. I was lucky enough to spend ~1hr behind the wheel, most of the time in an arroyo that was mostly rock garden. The stock FJC suffers from ground clearance problems but other than that they are a blast. The one that I drove was an auto which I prefer for rock crawling.

I am pretty sure they'll know about that one and ask them about something called

"Renina Papiuhda" or something along those lines. All I remember is that is was fxxxin delicious.

HIJACK: Reina Pepiada (Chicken & avocado) One of the best! PM me for recipe if you're interested.

The FJ is a capable litte rig... Have your fun :hill:

:shotts: :shotts: :shotts:
I must not come back to the FJ section for a while...

I could be wrong, but thats why its just my opinion. Like I said, I believe the FJC is a good combo of flexability, clearance, app/dep angles, wheelbase and traction aids to be up there.

Did we forget the 80 series? Front & Rear factory lockers, solid front axle...you throw 35's on that and you are going everywhere (minus extreme unless you want the body damage) and you are taking the family.

There are TONS of places where you NEED a front locker..."near stock" FJC doesn't have it...OR SFA...i would like to see 35's on an FJC...wonder how that front end will hold up. (not being a dick, I just don't know)

Again, I like it, no doubts about it...but 35's/sliders/3" lift/bumpers is not "near stock"

It's not really "fair" to compare a brand new, locked/traction aided rig to a 30 year old leaf sprung vehicle with open diffs. Ruggedness??? Hell ya the 40 wins...no plastic crap to break and it's been world proven.

FJCRuiser capable...YES

Most Capable toyota vehicle ever in US...NO!

Well, I am sporting 33" BFG MT's completely stock, so I assume a lifted FJ would handle them no problem. (clearance, and strength of components)

below: 3" lift and 35's.

Now i know why you think an fj is superior. poor mall crawling 100 series ;)

hmmm...my 80 with a 4" lift and 35's...."near stock" Not too mention check the angles on both ramps...

...and an 80 can fit 35's stock...doesn't mean thats how it should be...

Big difference between a 33" and 35" working properly. Anyways, that's not near stock anyway.

FJBen, IMO, a lift and a set of tires IS near stock. I mean, its not like thats heavily modded or anything, right? Its near stock. 2 modifications.

That picture of your 80 on the ramp is very impressive.
Its damn high up on the ramp. (but im sure the fact that its a huge vehicle with a long wheelbase helps)

Wesintl, That picture has nothing to do with why I think the FJC might be superior. I was simply showing that it only takes a 3" lift on the small FJ to fit 35 inch tires.

Wonderful thread hijack! The best point made above, that occured to me with every post I've read is that "Interestingly enough, EVERY SINGLE FJC owner (myself included) that ownes one, LOVES it."

I have an FJ Cruiser. I had an FJ40 appropriately modified (man-a-fre lift, ome shocks, 2F with header, electronic ignition, weber carb, etc.) Granted, the 40 had some capability beyond the Cruiser, but all around, I prefer the FJ cruiser to drive. I just got back from Europe and looking at prado's and the newer LC's. Looks like an FJ underneath its clothes to me. IMO, the only reason Toyota didn't bade the fj cruiser as a land cruiser in the US is because of the market niche that has been built for the luxury line.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program - I like the old school badges on the FJ.

I was just tinkering around a little and decided to plop an FJ40 emblem on the apron of my FJC. Feedback on how it looks is appreciated.

Note: If you recently paid over 50K for new Landcruiser - I sincerely apologize.

Mike,

It's a really nice looking street queen. I think the emblem looks really good but you really need a TRD off road sticker too.

Your point is rediculous. I could put a 2" lift on a 70 and run 36" military michelins. Yes a real 36" tire, not some poser mall terrains that say 35's but measure 33's. What's the point? I think it's great your excited about your rig, but the most capable:confused: ... put the pipe down.:D

See you on the Trail.

A six inch lift and 37" is possible with 2 mods on a 80 series.

If 2 mods is near stock, I guess I can say the 80 series is much better than the FJC in the power/acceleration dept. Only takes one mod, Slee Turbo charger.

A comment or two....

Interestingly enough, EVERY SINGLE FJC owner (myself included) that ownes one, LOVES it.

Second comment, I would bet that the new FJC properly equipt with locker and ATRAC is the most capable Toyota 4X4 ever. (especially with a proper front bumper and good tires)

Third comment: It SEEMS to me that the little short snotty remarks are mostly from folks with a 20-30 year old LC who are probably a little.... well, lets just say that I bet they would give up their old LC for the new ultra reliable, powerful, more capable FJC in about one second if opportunity...knocked.

To me, having a land cruiser means owning the most capable, most reliable vehicle available.

Call it what you want, but the FJC is as reliable as they get, and probably more capable than any Toyota yet. Again...... call it what ever you want. I couldnt care less.

Um, have a peek here and see if you don't want to rethink your contentions a bit:

CSA, thanks for the link. In all honesty, (Im a fair and honest guy!) I didnt know that there was so much enthusiasm for those large older cruisers.

They sure look like they can 'hold their own' off road, to say the least.

If anyone can provide me with a link that explains in detail the history of the recent land cruisers, (80+) I would appreciate that. I'd like to read about the differences in the 80, 100, the years they were available etc.

If you have any interest in the 80 or 100 series vehicles check out the forums dedicated to them. The 80 forum is huge and they wheel the snot out of their "soccer mom mall cruisers".

We have a nice picture thread at the 100 series forum too with some off road content and some mall cruiser content:D

Sorry for the hyjack, back to our regularly schedualed programming.

I like the look of the emblem:flipoff2:

I too like the look of the emblem, but........... I would remove the "Land" from it.

Just me, but I would not put an Araco sticker or badge on my Runner, but I would a TEQ.

To each their own though!

The emblems look really nice on the fenders. May get some of my own.

That being said, why does it seem that so many (not all) of the owners of old 'FJs' and LCs are such a bunch of jerks? I have never seen a bunch of more obnoxious, mine is better than yours type, anti social snots in all my years of web forum reading. Real shame.

I wish those who feel they need to tear down someone's enthusiasm for their new truck would go and find another forum to do it in.
