Great thread, you could also open up the gauges and replace the KM with the MPH face.
Bit of work, not sure its worth the trouble.
So in the end you do have a fair bit of electrical splicing to do, sounds pretty strait forward if you have the manuals in front of you.
Still a little puzzled, thought the entire harness in tact would go right into the new vehicle?

I stopped thinking about the harness to clear my mind and worked on getting the vacuum reserve can, power steering hoses, fuel filter bracket installed instead. I will post pics of this stuff tomorrow.
In regards to the harness.... I am really thinking things over. I need to confirm a few things first by looking at the schematics. How to properly give the ABS computer the correct speed signal. The gasser had two speed sensors and the diesel only has one. How to give the A.C amplifier an RPM signal that is the same as that of one supplied by the old coil. The A.C. systems between the two are actually different. I have contemplated switching the guage face as you mentioned. In some cases there is more than one way to do the same thing. I will make up my mind on what I am going to do and report back on it later.
This has actually been more pleasant than some other conversions.

Agreed it really is one of the more strait forward installs, more electrical and some head scratching.
Never heard what year truck you are installing into?
I personally would not want to challenge a unit with ABS, but if you have to it can all be done.
The signal for the tach is different from the gas pot to the diesel I was told, not sure if this would mess with the AC signal?

In regards to the A.C. The gas A.C. amplifier requires a tach signal to turn the A.C. on. The type of tach signal given by a coil is different than that produced by the injection pump. On a 12 HT which supplies the signal counted off the fly wheel I have gotten around this by using a signal converter made by Dakota digital.
The install is on a 93 FJ80.

The green light means your are making boost and running right. The red light means you are gonna blow your Sh!T up.

FYI. The motors with tranny alone depending on who you get them from will set you back anywhere from $8k to $9k. Than you will need to install it or find someone to install it. These motors can be had from G&S Crusers in Canada or Specter in California.
Most people install the 1HD for the H.P. and the torque. This motor is awesome. People also want the uniqueness and major cool factor of having a diesel. Yes you will get better mileage, but that is not the #1 reason people get them. This motor can also come with a manual 5 speed.

The Cruise control can be adapted in. You have to use the bracket and motor with pulleys from the diesel. In a U.S. 80 with dual batteries the cruise control motor needs to be relocated. The bracket needed some modifying. The actual motor is the same between the diesel and a gas one except for the bracket and the pulleys. The electrical end of it is very similar with a couple of changes that I am still working on.

#1 Here you can see where the fuel filter with built in priming pump and water sensor have been mounted. The bracket that holds it can be bolted right in, but you must remove the heat shield from the power steering box and toss it.
#2 Is the 12/24 volt solenoid for the starter

Thats a awsome job your doing ...I'm one of you ...I would also do that conversion ... I am new to the landcruisers ... There one of the finest built vehicals ever build and with a diesel all most perfect.
What is the weight of that engine ...I don't have the heart to start taking this new to me LX450 ... it's still like new .
I am looking around for one that I can do a build up on ... I would like to put a 6b cummins ... the motor weights around 1000lbs , I'm not sure if thats too much these frames .

It will certainly way less than a 6B by a lot. I don't know the exact weight. I would guess 700 lbs and that it only weighs up to 75 lbs. more than the stock motor. There are some threads on the 6b that may give you more info. Thanks for the nice comments.

The air filter system bolts right in with no modifications.
For the air conditioning lines... You use the ones that came with the 1HD from the compressor to the fire wall and the compressor to the condensor. The rest of the lines are original. The condensors from both cruisers are the same. I just picked the one in the best condition. To prepare the A.C. system the compressor was removed and all the oil was drained out. It was re installed and 5 ounces of new oil were added to the compressor. All the o-rings were replaced on the hoses. This system is being converted to r134 coolant, so the re-fill adapter fittings on the compressor where installed. A new dryer was also installed.
