Hola David,

Si es legal poner un motor diesel en un carro que tenia un motor de gasolina. El motor de diesel tienne que salir de un carro que ya excestia en los estados unidos. Si el motor de diesel no excestia en los estados unidos, no es legal. Este carro no va ser legal.

gracias .. Thanks ..

But I'm still confused .. if I swap a diesel engine 1HD-T, ok this truck comes ilegal, ok .. so I can trailer it and drive in a trail . ? ( no legal roads and off course no highway )

Yes, david you would be able to drive it off road only. You would just have to register it with OHV tags. As long as you meet the requirements for OHV, you would be fine. I do not know what those requirements are. They may also vary by state.

How do the brakes work on a diesel? Is there a vacuum pump or hydrobost or some other setup?

Dave

The brakes on both 60 and 80 series have a vacuum pump. The pump sends vacuum to a can that looks like a small coffee can. On a 60 the pump is built onto the back off the alternator and the 80 has a pump on the front driverside of the motor.

Most everthing is a bolt in application, no motor mounts to be made on the 80s as they have both set of mounts in the engine bay.

Not sure about the 12HTs into FJs.

If I go to US for a trip .. maybe 2 weeks with my HJ-60 I can drive it in the highway .. ? legal .. ( temporaly legal . ? )

So, this will be a >$10k conversion when all said and done! Wow, quite a chunk of change!!

There have been at least two FJ80's in the US that had diesel conversions and later sold for over 25k. There is a demand, though small, for these.

12 HT's into 60's require removal of older motor mount brackets and tranny brackets. Than welding in the brackets from the donor vehicle.

As mentioned by Radd Cruisers an 80 sereies conversion of the 1HDT is bolt in:)
Toyota put two mounting holes on their brackets.

Tapage- You might be able to drive your Cruiser into states and drive it around as long as it leaves with you when you go back home. You just cant register it here or sell it. Do a search or maybe someone else can give proper answer.

I am not going to be able to post pictures on this project until I recover from my Knee injury. Until than I can't work on it.

Yes, this is a >$10K conversion, but I keep doing the math cost wise and it seems like the way to go for me...like this:

1. I already have a truck that I truly enjoy, with all the necessary kit...
2. A new(er) truck would run me another $10K anyways;
3. I should be able to get back what I put into it on resale, given the prices US conversions are going for;
4. I'm getting sick of 8-10mpg around town...not for the $$ to fill up, but just the # of times I have to fill the thing...

and 5. This would be friggin' cool!

There is nothing like falling in Love all over again with your Cruiser. That is what will happen when you complete your conversion. Big cool factor too.

Curious1, what year is the clip from Japan? Any reason you didn't go with the
1-HD-FTE?

???

Couldn't you discount the resale value of your V6 too?

Bolt in, hmmmmm, gets you thinking....

Clown Midget........ The FTE version was not available in a clip at the time. I just went and looked at the I.D. tag and can't tell what year it is. There is no V.I.N. , but there is a frame number. Would it be on the frame number?

I think most people have bocked at this install in the past due to cost, but more are seeing this as a long term investment in thier cruiser.

Personally I have owned two 80 series gassers and now one HDJ81 which is also five years older than my last 80 series and all I can say is...........

HOLEY FREKEN CRAP, THIS THING ROCKS......

With a couple mods like tweaking the injectors and fuel pump and adding a intercooler, it pulls hudge torque numbers.

I really really really really really really really like my 81.

Oh and to make mention thier is a second engine mount in your 80 series cruisers for the diesel, think its situated on the drivers side.

I have never seen a FTE engine, but my guess it being electronic injection you could tell visually as the injectors or pump would have some electrics hooked up to it.

The 1HD-T has claims of 25MPG, the 1HD-FT claims around 28MPH and I have heard the 1HD-FTE could achieve 30MPG all highway and Canadian gallons.

Spoke with Sheldon yesterday, guess there is just a second slot as mentioned earlier in the engine mount for the 1HD-T.
