UPDATE: These are available for sale now - Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60/FJ62 Cargo Side Panels (Pair) - Access Doors - American Adventure Lab - https://americanadventurelab.com/product/toyota-land-cruiser-fj60-fj62-cargo-side-panels-access-doors/

I started this project all the way back on December 25, 2016 on my last FJ60. At the time, I didn't have access to the machines I do now, so I never finished the project. It has been rattling around in my head ever since, so I have had a lot of time to think about it. 🤣

I picked it back up last night and threw some new ideas into CAD. There do seem to be some differences in the panels between the FJ60 and FJ62. Being that my current one is a 62, that's what I'll be building against with these new panels.

I have a big feature I'm hoping to add to these panels - the ability to mount an adjustable height shelf in the rear. We do a lot of those in the Wrangler world and I have been thinking of ways to accomplish this in the 60 Series. I think I can make that happen.

Current design:

If things aren't overly busy at the shop today, I'll cut these and get the first prototypes test fitted.

Here's the type of shelf I would like to get mounted in the rear (the upper horizontal part). It would be a little bit lower on the 60, to sit just below the top of the rear seats to stay out of view. It would be height adjustable, though, to fit refrigerators and drawers beneath.

Well, that was easy! It's great when the V1 fits perfectly.

It was also nice that the driver and passenger side share the same contour. A few different attachment holes for each side, but not many. These are so much easier to design for than the newer vehicles!

Good progress on these today. Driver's side is done! Passenger side to follow tomorrow afternoon, hopefully.

Looks like we should be able to sell the set of these for under $400.

I really don't want to put access doors in the passenger side since there isn't anything to access on that side, but otherwise, we'll have to install rivet nuts into the body, which means slightly enlarging the holes. It looks like the mounting holes, on the passenger side only, would need to be enlarged about 0.5mm. I'm not a big fan of modifying vehicles for aftermarket parts. Otherwise, I'll need to put access doors in the passenger side just so we can get to the back of the panels for the nylon locknuts. I'm leaning toward that option. What do you guys think?

We'll have these available in raw aluminum (as pictured), textured black powder coat, and possibly Mil-Spec coated (hot-sprayed polyurea bed liner material). They will be available with or without the speaker grill cutouts. The intention is to flush mount the speaker to the back of the panel so that the speaker grate is not protruding into the cargo area.

We build cargo systems, which this one will get soon enough. For that reason, we make our access doors removable completely. That way, you can just remove the door to get full access to the opening, even if there's a drawer system or fridge close to the panel.

Let me know what questions you have. We're still learning about the different panel options for the 60 series, so if you have suggestions for alterations for the other 60 Series configurations, please let us know. I have lots of plans to evolve the cargo area of the 60's. We're just getting started!

What's the deliver time look like once ordered?

Nevermind I see it noted on the website.
We're about to cut a big batch that will get all of the orders up until now and a few sets for the shelves. We're cutting speaker cutouts and no speaker cutouts. I'll post a video when they start cutting. It's cool to see these evolving so quickly with such demand.

Last sheet for the night. Thanks for all of the orders for these. We cut all of today’s and last nights orders today. We’ll be building these to stock as soon as we can get a good projection. We did cut more than were needed for all of the orders today. Raw orders will possibly ship tomorrow. If you purchased textured black. We’ll start that process tomorrow. No purchases for Mil-Spec Liner yet.

What if I only want the speaker holes without the mesh grille so I can run my own speaker grilles? Also, possible to have 2 speaker holes per side?

At this point, we don't have other speaker hole cutouts. If there is enough demand, I'm open to anything. That's why I made a variation w/o the speaker grills; so you could cut whatever holes you needed for your particular speakers. I'm not sure where you could fit two speaker holes in each side, maybe vertically stacked. What were your thoughts on placement for those?

I would like a set but I have an 86 fj62 with the round lights. What kind of measurements should I take for the side panels. I do not have speakers nor 3 point belts. Have lap belts and third seats, Please let me know
Oddly, when I first started this project, back in 2016, I had a 60, so my original drawings for these parts were from those panels. I "believe" this is what you would need for the 60. I would love to fit a set, I just am fresh out of 60's at the moment.

Is there anyone around the southwestern Utah area that has a 60 that would want to help with some R&D on these?

Here's what the 60 panel should look like. We should be able to have the same access doors and speaker cutouts.

We added a pretty cool option for the panels today. We may add MOLLE panels as an option for all of the doors.

How would you like to see these added to the site:
  • You pick the doors you want to have MOLLE panels
  • You get all MOLLE panels (4 total) or none
  • You can just buy the MOLLE panels and doors-with-holes separately
I like the idea of all MOLLE panels or none. It makes the manufacturing a little easier.

The thought with this one is it's perfect to hold a first-aid kit. That way, you can pop the panel off and carry it to wherever its needed.

I’m looking at ordering a set of these now, there is not a lot of storage behind the passenger side panels. I would personally like to use 2 Molly panels on the right passenger side and then keep the doors for access on the left driver. Maybe offer them in a 2 pack? I still would like to have the doors if I’m not running the Molle.

Most of the feedback has been geared toward a whole set (all 4 doors worth of MOLLE) or none. I need to come up with pricing. That may make it an easier decision to get the whole set or not. The doors will still function perfectly well with the MOLLE panel add-on. So you could run the whole set but chose what to put on each side.
