They are the spaces for the rear centering pins. Used instead of the rubber sleeved steel "hat" that wrapped the old springs under the U-bolts. It will give you another 3/8" of lift too.

Did you find that thread on stock height? That’s what I want for my FJ62.So there is discussion on Mud for keeping the stock height, just Google it. I honestly don't know what the stock height truly is, since nobody has those measurements from the factory anymore. But with a leaf removed it does look nice and doesn't really look lifted to me. It did raise it quite a bit in the rear because the old suspension was so clapped out. Cruiser Outfitters can tell you what leafs to remove.

Remove the rubber isolators when installing any aftermarket leaf springs. You'll liquify the rubber before you get the torque to anywhere close to the target. That could definitely be part of your shifting sensation. Old Man Emu has part number CBS01 that acts as a shim/spacer for the center pin, taking the place of metal channel/isolator on top of the springs. Cruiser Outfitters/CruiserTeq has them, get one for each side.I don't think I saw it in here, but my copy of the FJ62 manual states that the U-Bolt Nuts are to be torqued to 105 lb ft.

I say this because I've been chasing the vehicle shifting on hard L/R turns and I don't believe the U Bolts are tight enough at 90lbs to keep the leaf packs from shifting under the axles.
Now I wondering if the person who installed the OME kit prior to my ownership had the wrong torque values. (leaves in wrong side, front leaves backwards, and one rear side had full isolator pack while other was missing bottom piece)
While I'm at it, I got some drill bushings to put in place of the factory rear isolator pads to reduce the potential of rubber flex. View attachment 4104635View attachment 4104636
