I have a front fj60 axle and I was told the front and rear 3rd members are the same. I also want to know if this third member is only low pinion or if it can be flipped around and used as a high pinion with a new set of reverse cut ring/pinion?

yes, front to back they don't care. i don't believe you can flip a lo-pinion to work as a hi-pinion. if it is , damn, that's a well kept secret as i'd think that one or all of the 'yota houses would be working that angle

Sure, swap in a set of 80 axles if you want high pinion reverse cut.
60 thirds are interchangeable.
When a SOA is done with a cut and turn the pinion angle is rotated up on the front. This can lead to oil starvation
on bearings if you spend too much time nose up. I know, I've blown mine up on my SOA 40. Can be avoided by
adding extra oil, no big deal.
