so does anyone know who makes a frame mounted receiver hitch for the pig? I've got the kind that bolts through my bumper and to the frame loop at the back, but I don't like how the rear frame loop flexes when I've got my utility trailer on there. I'm afraid it's going to bend the frame. I'd love to just get a normal frame mounted one like I've had on all my trucks. Any ideas? I can't measure now, but the FJ40 has narrower frame rails right? I found one for that cruiser...Now that i've got the TBI and no truck, I need to haul firewood, lumber etc

Would a frame mounted receiver hitch from an fj60 fit under the 55? Maybe with some adjustment?

What do you plan on pulling a stock pig can't handle much without going ssssssssslllllllllooooooowwwwww

i'll second what texican says....that 2f, even in fresh form like mine, was really pissed off at me when i pulled a popup to moab a few years back. hope you got a v8....and good rear springs (cause my springs were pissed too)

Don't worry about the capacity . I've got an 8 under the hood and new springs. Plenty of power. In fact, way more power than that gas suckingly pathetic T100 I used to have, all be it a great truck that never had issues... but that's another story.

I'm more worried about torching the clutch. I pull a 4 X 8 trailer with firewood around the lake and make dump runs in general. The real issue is that I can't find a manufacturer who makes a frame mounted receiver hitch. I'd also like it to be a point of attachment for winching as needed. The receiver I currently have is bolted to the rear bumper ( and X member) but sticks straight out like a stinger, not below the bumper. This kinda makes a little more leverage and thus I get some flex on that X member when the trailer is full.

Anyone know the width of the frame rails on the fj60?

Sal,

Take a look at my thread called " SLOW 71 ", I made up a new rear cross member, from heavy wall tubing, then welded in some DOM sleeves for mounting a new bumper and receiver hitch.

Your chevy motor will pull what you want but the frame, back there, is on the weak side.

Cool. That's what I suspected. I actually just found a multi-fit class III that I may try to fit to the long frame rails ( classic type). If not, then I'm looking into a lick-n -stick ( hot kind) like you did with some frame material to replace that cross member.

Thanks!!

If you can work with metal, they can be made pretty easy. I'd did mine for about $60. That was $30 for an 18" reciever and $30 for the rest of the metal. I put 1/4" 2x3 angle iron running along the frame rails, two 1/4" 2x2 square tubing running across, and the 18" reciever welded to the bottom of the square tubes.

Geof

i started to modify an 80 series hitch that i got for free...just need to cut one side loose and slide it in about 1/2 inch and it will bolt right up.

Bumping this thread back up.
We found a light pop-up camper the Pig should be able to tow w/o too much trouble (light enough to push around by myself).
Bump It Off Road is local up here and he could either modify the bumper I have on Pig, or make one.
I said I did not want to get hung up on a receiver that hung down too low, and he talked about running the receiver through the crossmember, and plating the bumper to the frame rails.
Hearing about the rear cross-member flexing doesn't thrill me...
Anyone have any great receiver pics they can share?

Pablo,

Do you have a spare tire or long range tank, behind your cross memeber? That's the problem I had. Better to just make a new one out of heavy tubing. Then you could cut a reciever tube, right into the cross member or bolt to the cross member.

here's the popup i took to moab in 08, where i found the frame would twist. i had a receiver bolted to the frame. the camper was rated just under 2000 pounds. you can see the receiver in the pic of me wheeling. i had it mounted upside down for better clearance.

Hmm...
I know you are right, just getting tired of working on this, time to get out and drive it. The :princess: would like that as well.
Wondering if a nice bumper with plates to the frame rails would be adequate for now...

My rear bumper is built from 1/4" wall 4X4...I just bit the bullet and dropped 85 bux on a ball/pintle hitch that I bolted to the bumper- not even thru the frame crossmember. that 4X4 don't have much flex-if any. I have hauled several dump runs, and some fire wood, but not sure where the actual payload was at on the scale. no problems so far.

I'm on 295/75/16s- tall tire- and stock 4.1 gears....I think it may have more to do with the gearing-tire diameter ratio when it comes to pulling up hills. Mine slows down up hills with a heavy load as well, but I have to think it has more to do with the gears than the motor...4.56s would make the bog less noticable IMO

I ended up getting an adjustable one that I 'adjusted' to make it fit. I'm out of town now or I'd give you a pic. I mounted it to the frame rails but pushed it forward quite a bit so it wouldn't interfere with the departure angle too bad. It's pretty good, but anything hanging below the bumper is going to be less than ideal, as I'm sure you already know. I found just a general one that was made for a 60 series. I wish I could remember the name, Curt maybe? I have hauled firewood, half my house etc... no issues. Have not dragged it over a rock .... yet. Hold my bike rack great though.
