Just looking thru a few other things and on SOR website. I was noticing some tabs on the axle when I was home that I didn't know what they were for. Also a couple on the frame that I thought had something to do with the fuel tank when my dad took it off.

Figured it all out though.

It is for a rear sway bar me thinks. So I can purchase the parts except for the bar.

Who has a FJ55 or 45 or 43 for that matter sway bar sitting around?

Now I just need to figure out how to work my bump stops. Small potatoes I guess.

So I'm confused.

Are these earlier or later doors? They have the window vent like a pre 76' but the door handles of a ???? later year. This is a 03/80 FJ43 so who knows. Having fun trying to figure out all of the fun things different on this beast.

Looking to swap on a set of early doors that I will mold into half doors.

About 10 seconds in you get an ok shot of the doors.

75 was when US doors did away with vent windows. Non-US rigs kept them. In fact, one can still buy a new 70 series in Australia with vent windows.
I can't get your photos to open on my phone but your doors should have clip-in felt. It was not until 81 that press in felt was fitted. I'll let you know when I see it but I suspect your doors at correct from your decription.

Thank you both, I appreciate the quick answers.

Sounds like the earlier doors will work as I want to make a set of half doors and I just need make an extra striker for them? Might be a good project for the future.

Going to go measure today but does anyone think the stock tank would fit all the way in the back? Have a chance to pick up an extra one. Might not work with the sway bar though so need to consider that as well. Would be nice to have the extra fuel storage.

I don't reckon it would fit as it's pretty tall. Look for a Mitsubishi Pajero or Isuzu trooper track. There is a thread on that somewhere.

So Please look post #95 at the rear spring hangars.

Can anyone tell me more about these spring hangars. Got the new pins (of course just after my dad found the old ones) and the holes in the hangars are so wallowed out something has to be done. On the nut side I think we can just weld it up a bit and drill it out to the correct size.

On the much larger side you can see how bad it is. Thinking we might have to make a new plate on this side and weld it onto the hangar? Looks like some welding was done before. But I'm guessing that portion for the pin is supposed to be completely flushed and not beveled like it is. The old pins were actually welded to match the wallowed out hole.

Thoughts? I had FJ40 hangars already and if I'm fabing this up now I wish I would have known this to begin with and saved 50 bucks on more damn hangars. Or s*** just used my old FJ80 frame and threw some coils under this bitch. Ohh well.

What would you do???? Please reference pictures. Again I've never messed with these type of spring pins before as they are MWB and LWB specific.

Received my first pictures from the family since arriving in the Stan. Looks like they got most of the welding done and mocked up all of the steering and front axle Shock mounts are probably on by now. The rear axle will be later in the week but we don't have new rear springs yet so he is sand blasting the rears and bolting them on. Waiting on a picture of the fix for the rear spring pins. They had completely worn away the original casting from being loose and probably never being fixed correctly. Combine that with the roads and tons of rattling and it just ate the cast part away.

The other picture is of a scrambler I saw on expo. Thought it was pretty cool and will have to find a way to incorporate that.

Lastly Metal Tech finished the cage (made a bit longer) and luckily live in Oregon so it will be getting picked up in awhile yet it is about 6 months from actually getting mocked up and on there. (Anyone want a cradle kit? It was a special but doubt I will use it). My dad is going to hate me when he has to notch everything and actually weld it. Ohh and second lastly the transfercase should arrive later this week as well so we can finally start mocking it up and see if my guesstimations will work out.

Wow on both. That would be a sweet setup for a 43.

Transfercase for the 5 speed with the oiler provision arrived today along with a crossmember. Needs completely cleaned up and we should probably rebuild it while it is out. Though just might clean it up and save that to give me something to do later when I get back. Will probably take awhile to clean up and won't start mocking up the drivetrain combo until the beginning of the year is my guess.

Received another picture today. Mounted the extended shock towers and welded on the new shock mounts on the axle. I didn't get an answer yet but I believe they came off of the original shock towers and then were moved inward as not to hit the 6 shooter steering arms. Still a lot of welding to do though. Motor mounts/transmission mounts, oil pan modifications, battery tray, bumper. Ohh geeze just when I thought they were getting close.

Sorry it is sideways. Took about 10 minutes to upload here so I won't be fixing it.

Looks like rubbish and you are working your dad too hard. You should give it to me.....

I can appreciate the attention to detail on your rig.

In your first few posts you mention you are going to get it running good and rattle can the frame, etc. On page 6 I'm looking at a bare frame. LOL

Will probably take awhile to clean up and won't start mocking up the drivetrain combo until the beginning of the year is my guess.

I believe the New Year begins on Tuesday. Looking forward to the mockup and the assembly process.

Not a lot to see here. The gaskets and a few other random parts should arrive today so we can put it all back together now that they are cleaned up and inspected.

Who would have guessed that the bolts for the transfercase that bolt it to the transmission are to short. I guess they go all the way thru the extension on the transmission.

Anyone have some of these bolts laying around?

Also found out all of the ubolts with the MAF kit are to short. They don't even begin to thread the nuts on. Very Strange. Even the longer ones for the thicker side barely work on the short side in the front axle.

Lastly my stock rear springs were torn apart and there are a few cracked leaves. Trying to find a way to get some 4" lift springs. Don't want to use the 45 springs as they are too stiff. But ALCAN keeps losing e-mails with the data and never calls back.

In addition the high steer linkage from 4x4Labs were to long by about 4". As usual GREAT customer service and they sent out another yet this time it is about 2" to short. Luckily the tie-rod ends had enough thread to make it work but after the weld on tabs for the 6 shooters being machined up wrong I have to wonder what is going on over there. Again great customer service and amazing products so no real gripes but quality control is bit off as of late I believe. I wish I could say the same for MAF...with the to short of u-bolts they basically said sorry s*** "should be" right.

1 step forward and 10 steps back. Hate to be pessimistic but this is NOT going to be done by the time I get back from deployment. Guess I can't complain. I enjoy doing the work myself and it will give me something to do when I fly home for leave at the end of the year.

Those bolts are the same ones used on the 86-87 fj 60 with the faux spacer h42. You can get them at Toyota.

I need to get the details from my dad but he needed a few bearings for the drivetrain. Said he took the parts cross referenced them and many toyota parts are direct replacements with GM parts? Don't know much more than that but he said he would send the details my way eventually. So now I have some more GM in my transmission somewhere.

Finally got the Alcan springs ordered up. Here is to hoping he knew what he was talking about and they got the right info. I have a bad feeling they are going to end up to short. We will see.

Apparently missing a bunch of parts on the spare motor I purchased so they are looking for a parts car or motor to get some things off of. I can't imagine it is much so I'm sure we will just order them individually. I wish I was there as this is more of a pain in the ass gone than it is being there and actually doing it myself but I'm very glad to have the help and the attention to detail back home. I'm starting to think it is a VERY long shot this will be done by the end of the year but here is to hoping. Probably won't have any updates for another month as I think that is about the wait time on the springs. Should be a 6 leaf pack with 3 overload springs for a total of 9.

And I want to thank OrangeFJ45 Georg at Valley Hybrids in California for some bolts he sent up our way. Great guy and very very helpful.

So another Colombianism.

Who with one of these hard tops can explain why this was done and what is the best way to fit my soft top? One of these days I hope to find the end of the Colombian part of this Colombian cruiser  It is fun in its own right though.
