Looking at the 3 photos below of an '81 FJ40...is there something missing with the steering components? Center arm assembly, steering stabilizer, knuckle arm, drag link rod, etc...? I've never seen these missing on a supposedly functioning vehicle. Normally the center arm is located in the front (where the four holes are located in the photo). Is this one a 'modification'? Help please:bang:

Thats an FJ60 power steering conversion.
Wow...new to me on a FJ40. So that makes sense, but looking at the photos are there any other steering components that are missing for this '60 power steering conversion' to be functional? Appreciate your assistance.

The 60 conversion eliminates alot of the linkage that causes slop(when worn) in a 40 steering system.

This clamp in not installed correctly, and the very minimal amount of TRE threaded into the rod should be fixed. You also have a leak coming from your timing gear cover, front end plate, or crank seal. It also looks like your driver side knuckle could use a rebuild; looks like it has been leaking for some time.

Not been around the 60 series so thanks a lot, I learned something here. Appears as though it all works!

Thanks for your observation. as this is an FJ40 that I am  considering.

Mike the 60 conversion eliminates most of the 40 steering linkage.

And that is a good thing. Well, it is if you prefer more direct, less play steering.:hillbilly:

Thanks so much for the helpful information today. Lots of experienced Land Cruiser guys out there!:popcorn:

You should be able to find someone here on mud that can take a look at it with you so you know exactly what you are getting into.
