I was wondering if you could post a pic of where you placed the head unit, cause i went out and looked and it didnt make much since to me, but im still new at this landcruser buisness, had it for 6 months, and most of the time it was in the shop having the carb and breaks redone

I just got a pair of Polk Atrium 45's. Mounted them where the jump seats were. I have a Conferr bench. They are outdoor speakers and about the same size as the Bose and pretty damn fine sounding...though they need an amp pushing them my ride is kinda loud...because I have NO TOP. :-[

I have been meaning to mention for a while...Pimp...your stable is badass. Sweet rides each n every one. Proud to know you fellow Northwesterner.

If you look in your glove box there is a rib that runs across the top center from left to right. It hangs down about 2 inches or so and it makes an excellent place for hanging the stereo. You can add a support off the rear through the firewall as well if you want foradded security and stability. I have the cd changer in there now and built out the dash to incorporate all the switches and stereo now. Don't have a camera but i really should get one. It would make it a lot easier than this explaination.

That rear corner of the FJ40s has been the most popular spot for speaker installation and direction for sound.

Would be nice to see someone build a really nice integrated box that would fit the curve of the corner.

Do any of you guys using your CD players at that angle have any problems wit it like that? I remember when i mounted mine like that; it would skip all the time, and the instructions said not to mount it more then a 70deg angle.
Thanks

I don't in mine, but it's still fairly new. I put a 3/4" piece of adhesive foam down where the stereo installs. Kinda hard to explain, but if the back end of the stereo tried to settle and tilt down it can't, it is sitting on that foam. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

no problems, I have 2 cd players mounted in an angle and niether skip. Both are Alpine units

I'm using a "lower-end" Blaupunkt deck mounted in a Tuffy center console. Has been in for almost two years and works great and I don't think I've ever heard it skip. I built a console that mounts to my cage between the two front seats and has two 5.25" Sony Xplode speakers. In the back I've got a pair of the Tuffy storage/speaker boxes mounted on the wheel wells. I've got two Sony 6x9's mounted in those. Fellow cruiserhead Ryan Davis of Ratio in Bountiful, Utah is a genius with audio/video installs and carries a full Blaupunkt line. He got a hold of a bitchin' little amp from Blaupunkt that mounts inside my Tuffy Center console. Blaupunkt won a bunch of awards for the amp based on it's performance and relatively small size, but mainly because of how it dissipates heat. It's one of the only plastic bodied amps I've ever seen. Fits perfect in my console and makes it nice when I wanna turn it up on the freeway with the top off. :D

Now heres a question, what would i do because i dont have a console, i have the long bench seat. could i mount it under the dash, and with what?

You could, depending on where it will fit. You'll have to fab some sort of box or something to keep it secure. You may not wanna cut up your dash, but I've seen some mounted where the ashtray is, but you'd have to cut a bigger hole.

Also, if you've got a full cage, Tuffy makes a cool overhead console with a stereo compartment, CB compartment and spots for speakers. Pretty similar to what I have with my speakers but goes all the way forward with two drop down compartments for the different radios.

Or you could make an overhead console to hold it, then you aren't cutting your dash.

Could someone please tell me how i would wire power to it, i have no idea, and all the original wireing that was there at one point is gone, theres nothing from the washers or any form of aux, please help

One of them will be for constant power...possibly yellow or orange(w/fuse)...in my experiences.
Next will come an aux(more than likely red) which will need to be tied into a fusable link with power when the acc is on(turn the key to acc and check each one of the fuses to see which one gets voltage)
Ground(which will probably be black)
And your speakers which are self explanitory i would imagine (+ and -)

Does that help??

OH, and I forgot, if you are using an amp, the remote wire(blue probably) will need to be connected to the remote wire of the amp. This will apply power to the amp once the head unit is turned on.
