I may not be a rocket scientist but I play with rocket fuel The nostalgia funny car I crew on is based in redding
We don't get as many days at 100 degrees as you
We get some mid 90 on the coast and inland we get into the hi 90low 100s and I daily drove mine last summer and have driven it from redding to Moab and back in July no boiling over
A bunch of Rocket Scientists (literally) didn't think cold temperatures would affect o - rings. They were wrong.

Certainly some other vehicles have their engines closer to the fire wall, but they also had adequate cooling engineered with factory cooling and airflow. The sbc swap in a 40 typically uses a stk rad that is barely adequate. A friend placed his sbc so that he didn't have to alter the driveshafts, and that thing overheated all the time even with a shroud. He even doubled up the rad, which helped a little. Recently he has upgraded the cooling w/an alum rad, shroud and a milder cam, it still gets hot, but it's better.

I've had a BBC in a 40 with some additional cooling added, and was able to keep it somewhat cool, It depended how hard I was working it. Same with the 1st SBC which had 12.5 to 1 comp pistons.

Where are you located? There was just a complete 350 swap on CL near me with a fully dressed 350, LC 4 speed and t case, all coupled together with the appropriate adapters (AA I think) plus shortened drive shafts for $500. I bet the guy still has it because the posting expired. I was going to buy it, even if it was just to part out. SM465s pop up all the time.

Im Hawaii, kinda hinders sourcing stuff sometimes. I saw a SM465 on craigslist last year, guy wanted $500 just for the trans. If I can find a used bell and ship it hear would be my ideal scenario. So Ill be keeping an eye out on the classifieds. If you find it and end up picking it up, if you dont want that bellhousing you know where Ill be haha!

My SBC position was chosen by my rigs PO. I've posted pictures with measurements you could look at. I am currently running an electric fan and don't care for the loud electric fan sound. My stock sbc fan would have chopped my stock teq radiator hose off. The ability to run a reliable old fashioned fan blade would be nice. My stock FJ40 shifter would have come up under my heater box. With muds help I found an FJ60 shifter that bolted right up to my H42. That placed my shifter back in the stock tranny hump hole. The other thing to consider is your stock battery tray won't work in its current location. I bought a nice 4plus battery relocation tray. Here's an interesting blurb on drivlines and phasing:

Kind of blows the whole stock modern airflow theory out dosnt it ? How much airflow is around the back of that motor ? Have seen lots of hot rods with tighter fits than this cruising around at hot August nights in Vegas

And why would you stick with a stock rad in this day and age when you can buy economical better performing rads ? If mine overheated I would swap in a better rad
