Here are some old pictures taken in Saline Valley, late 70's. This was my 1st FJ40, 73 vintage, mostly stock. Doesn't look like much, but it sure ran strong. Had some great desert trips in that one.....

I have that same roof rack. IT made it to me a year or so ago. Do you remember what type it is? There isn't any indication of company on mine. It is going form my 40 to replace my factory roof rack on my FJ Cruiser.

I was over at my folks house working on my trailer and my mom handed me this. Me about 1976-77? The three wheeled chopper was stolen shortly after the pic was taken but the 69'55 in the background was my first car. Dad bought it in 1970 when he was selling Toyota's. Both of my brothers drove it as well. That Cruiser was my family,s primary transportation for many years. Made several trips from Amarillo to L.A and back. I can still remember the waffle shape imprints the seatcovers left on hot summerdays. Mom is on the hunt for old pics so I will post more.

Wow,that's a flash from the past.
Horopita Auto Wreckers, New Zealand I remember going there ( probably 1965/66) to get a starter for 1928 Dodge/Chrysler Victoria. Straight six flat head silver dome motor. The place used to be a sawmill and had lots of old buildings great for storing parts. The guy said go look in that shed, I'm sure you will find one. We opened the door and there was a mountain of starters stacked like a pile of cord wood on the floor. We spent about a hour going through the pile to find a starter. It was unique in that it fit into a hole in the bell housing and a bolt a came in from the top to clamp it in, very simple and effective.
The old '28 was parked in a farmers field for probably 20 years, the body was rotten so we removed it and drove around with just the frame. My dad said if you get it going in a week I will pay for it, $5.00, we got it going in a couple of days, he paid. Had a couple of arm chairs for the driver seat and passenger seat, looked a little like Jed Clampet's truck. That was the start of the interest of going off road, only two wheel drive, however with chains on the rear wheels we could got pretty far. Sorry no pictures I can find?
We had a 25 gallon drum strapped on for a gravity feed fuel system. We used to buy the fuel/petrol on the farm for $12.50 for a 45 imperial gallon drum. Just so you young guys know how much fuel used to be , here are the comparable's in the three measures used today, $0.27 cents per imperial gallon, $0.227 cents per US gallon, $0.06 cents per litre.
Thanks for posting Johnny C
