Rick D told me years ago, it was easy to add the lock to 81+ , I want to say he said a fj60 lock would swap but maybe it was from a 40. The Canadian late model 40's had the lock(pretty sure) and for some reason I think the us 83 fj40 had the lock.

I would have to look at the clam shell on my 73 but believe it has the flat spot where the hole for the button is. I know it's still there because a PO trimmed the lower part to install a tachometer on the column. I've had it since 94 and hasn't been on the road since the late eighties so pretty sure it would still be original.

I have a RHD ignition lock off a 84 HJ47. I found it interesting it still had the one piece steering column and glove box didn't have the twist knob. I guess if you think about Toyota was making the two piece glass flip open windshield for Pakistan earlier than then 67. Just wonder how many they were selling go thru all the work to make a special locking steering column.

Curious the horn is working on the 67/68? That hole on the bottom side steering column would have a grommet and wire going to the horn button unless I'm mistaken.

Unique to Sweden perhaps? Wonder if that shows up in the Euro EPC?

No, not to Sweden but Finland perhaps. Toyota Sweden didnt import the 40 series or the 55.
I think it was in later half of the eighties that the first Landcruiser were delivered by Toyota Sweden. Only a smaller amount of BJ45 were imported here in early eighties, but not by Toyota.

A 1974 owners manual lists a steering lock as an option but it looks similar to the one I posted on my 1979.

As for your early style one (in post #18 etc) located further down the steering column Cruiser68 .... I can't find any information on that one at all (from the euro EPC or anywhere else)..

When having a closer look on that one it seems not to be a Toyota part
According to POs son there were some problems back in the days and therefore they put a new ignition lock on the panel. I will stick with that and remove the one on the column. I will take a closer look then.

While searching thru a box of misc parts I got with the car when I bought it, I found this steering lock that appears to be the original one.

Late to the game. I have never seen the early early lock. These are the lock systems for all 1973 and later 4x series. Now rare. Ignition lock was unique to this set, and bracket. The plastic was too but anyone with a drill can make a hole for push button in 5 min. I have always felt it was idiotic that 40 series came to the US without some immobilization system. I put this on my 1981 circa 2003 when the latest (-60063) part was still in US system to order.
