I think it will work with a mechanical linkage but you will need all the parts. I did the same thing and converted mine back to stock, but mine was the early linkage rod style. I found someone that sold me all the parts I was missing. Yours looks like a late rod style.

No problem. Glad it helps. At first it didn't look like it was from a 77 because it was different than mine, so I did some searching and learned something myself. Do a search or check a parts diagram to make sure you know what all the parts look like.
