TRIP UPDATE AND COMMENTS:

From our Trip Leader Steve:

"For this run I'd recommend rock sliders due to the rocky wash area (1/3 mile). A rear locker will also aid in the challenging spots."

From the Prescott National Forest:

"More Fire Restrictions will go into effect on June 10th. We really do not expect them to be forest "closures". We'll know the details on Monday."

(I'll be re-calling them on Monday)

From Mark Longfield (our co-leader):

"Weather should be nicer than expected. About 82 in Prescott so figure on about 87-90 on DeSoto." (For a June run, that's great news!)

From me:

"Looks like we'll have a great variety of rigs for this run. With the responses I've got we should plan on one of the best trail runs ever. It might take us out to 4:00 PM (or so) to complete the run, though it'll be well worth it!

Bring extra water and sunscreen (something we always forget)!

No FJ's allowed on this run. NOT! :D

Great. We'll see you. It's only too late come saturday at 10:01 AM. :)

Tim's Toyota of Prescott is getting a group of FJ's they've sold lined up to go! Don't know how many will be coming along, but there were several that wanted to meet the trail team and perhaps tag along.

Holy Crap! :D What a day this is going to be! I can't wait! Sure, with 25 rigs (or whatever) it'll take another hour. So what! This is going to be AWESOME!

Shoot, I might need to actually wash my truck so I can be presentable around all the shiny new rigs :flipoff2:

I'm there... not sure which rig I'll be in (the 40 MAY be in the throes of a engine/tranny/xfer swap :D ) and the 80 needs a birf repack / possible replacement and I haven't ordered the parts yet... so I might be in the newly rear-driveshafted 4Runner. Body armor out the wazoo, a rear Detroit, and 31s  so count me in!

Hey guys. Looks like I may be needinga couple of seats for this run. I was planning on driving up in the 40 but it needs some serious PM that I ain't gonna get done. Therefore John (Offroader5) and I are looking for a couple of seats for this run. Fortunately since I won't be driving this will allow me to shoot video of the run instead of worrying about driving. We could meet anywhere before hand or I could just drive up to the official meeting point and ride in from there.

Between Rob and I, we probably have you covered. We can meet here in town and save you the gas, at the shop maybe?

I'd like to suggest a couple of thing for the trail ride.

1. No smoking - not even in vehicles. The current restrictions permit smoking in private vehicles, but lets take it to the next level on our own. The situation up here is really bad. You'll see some pretty severe drought conditions - the Manzanita and Scrub Oak are dead or dieing, and there are virtually no Pines (Ponderosa or Pinion) left alive on the south facing slopes.

2. No parking off the trail. We don't need to take any chances of causing a fire from grass or brush on a hot catalytic converter. We can all park in a large wash for lunch below the Tuscumbia Mine Summit.

3. Bring plenty of water!!! I'd recommend a gallon per person at a minimum. Two gallons would be better yet. Remember the desert travellers rule: If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

4. Bring a lunch - we'll be on the trail all day.

5. Bring a buck for a cold BPR draft at the Cleator Bar! It's a piece of AZ history. I met Tommy Cleator back in the 80's - what great stories!

oh yeah - don't forget sunscreen!

This is going to be a LONG day. We really need to be prepared when it comes to water. I will be sure to bring plenty to share. It's gonna be hotter than Helen's house out there even if it's 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix it'll still be 90+.

WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER

Isn't the rule like 1/2 gal per person per hour in the desert?

My rig is empty, except for me, Branden.

Went wheeling the last 2 weekends around the Chiva area, f-in hot out, but the AC is working fine!! For any newbie wheelers, don't take the water thing lightly. Even in your comfy AC'ed rig, you can get dehydrated spending a day on the trail. Bring extra fluids for yourself and your rig.
Don't forget to fill your tank either. Sounds funny, but 2 weeks ago a guy who tagged along on a run, ran out of gas. We grabbed a funnel and a gallon container I had, sent the dummy under my rig to pull my fuel tank plug and gave him 2 gallons. The good news, when we got off the trail, he filled my tank up.

Any way, after the last 2 weeks of 104* wheeling I'm looking forward to some cold climate stuff up north :D
