Yeup,
the garage door closes just fine!:D

What comes to mind when he askes that question is "Once you are done, will you be able to get her out of the garage (your rig, not your wife)"

I know that with my 3" lift I just barley can get in my garage. If I went SOA I would have to do the work outside, and never put her in the garage again.

Just to update.
Today, just finished cleaning the spring packs, so when I get the pads and rear spring pins, I can re-assemble and start with the actual spring over process! Cleaned and painted the knuckles, and started HACKING off the old perches...
Lemme say this...When everyone tells you that you need to take off all of the steer stops, sway bar mounts etc, they mean it. I was thinking that I could save some labor later by maintaining the sway bar mounts....NO FRICKIN WAY! Youve GOTTA take all the crap off of the housing ends. This is taking quite a bit of time, in fact, longer than I thought.
I gotta go later and buy some more grinding wheels, and maybe an electric saw zall...The batt. operated saw zall is pretty much useless for me.

Ill post pics tomorrow of the housing HOPEFULLY cleaned and ready to go!

Thanks for the support!

Yeah,
Ive got about a foot and a half of clearance above where she was sitting with the 3.5 in lift and 32's.
I should be alright. I think the roof rack I was thinking about getting will be out of the question though:D

Garage???? my tyruck has only had its nose in the garage.....need a shop if it is ever to live under a roof...

Yeah... I fail to understand the importance of parking your Cruiser in a garage. Garages are for your wife's daily drIver, not for your Cruiser.

Mark...

Mark,

I agree completely...except the wife can't be bothered with opening the gate that is required for getting to the garage:) :) ....Its all mine

The axel is ready for the TRANSFORMATION PROCESS!
What a PITA it was grinding everything off. I used a cut off wheel for my 4.5 in angle grinder, and a saw zall. I cut off the steer stops and sway mounts on an angle in toward the housing ( like this /), so I might be able to re use them again. My theory was, that Id be able to salvage more of the original length to re attach em later without as much hassle...Well see how that goes.

Here's a few pics of the housing!

Mark...

Guilty as charged....My rig lives in the garage! I have a 3 car, so the wifes 4 runner is in the 2 car space, and the rig is in the 1 car spot. Its not important to have the rig in the garage...its just easier for daily living that way in facilitating getting in and out of the drive way.
The cruiser is not my DD!

Hey chicago, sorry if you've already mentioned this, but are you doing anything to beef up your springs? And if you are adding a leaf, are you putting one in the front packs also? I'm strongly considering doing a SOA and i'm trying to figure out what it'll end up costing me. Looks like you've done some nice work so far to..keep it up.

Redneckracer,
My springs already had AAL's to begin with that the PO had installed! Actually, I had never realized this fact till I went wheeling with the Norcal guyz and they pointed it out to me.
Cost...the last time I worked the numbers it came out to around 3K INCLUDING tires and gears and I included about 300.00 for misc. stuff which has gone over a bit in that department.
I had called a few places to get an estimate on what it would cost to have the SOA done...3,000.00 to 3,500.00 and that didnt include the gears, tires and clean up of the components I did.
Honestly...SO FAR...it really has not been that hard. I say this reluctantly, cuz Im only part way through, but IMO it hasnt been that bad, just time consuming.
I you have ANY questions that I can help with, shoot me a PM. I dont know much, but I can tell you where Ive been and what Ive done.
In this thread, I plan on documenting some of the over looked info that is difficult to find when searchin, like the shock tower set up, rear shock pin relocation etc.
I know Im moving pretty slow on this, but I like to take my time and do things right insted of fast, so keep checking back.

Chicago,

I've been keeping an eye on your progress and it's looking good. While I have never done a SOA on a 60 series, I'm not sure why you cut the turn stops off. Do you end up doing something different to stop the knuckle from turning too far? Or is it because when you do the cut-n-turn, you have to move them to get everything lined up again? Again if I can help, let me know.

Jack

Hey thanks Chicago, Yeah at this point i'm basically trying to find a couple 3-4 days in a row that i can work on my rig to atleast get the majority of the SOA started. Thanks again , i'm sure i'll be getting a hold of you with questions soon!! Thanks

Hey Jack,
I AM going to do a C and T to the housing, and Ill be using a 6 in pipe cutter to do so. I use em (pipe cutter) on the job all the time, and you cant beat the nice STRAIGHT, CLEAN cut that they make...Also, you have a lot better control of the depth you cut. With that being the case, I HAD to remove the steer stops to be able to get the roll cutter in to do its THANG! I didnt trust my self using the angle grinder...It seemed to me, that going too deep into the sleeve wouldnt be a good thing, not to mention a crooked cut.
In all honesty, Im not quite sure what im gonna do about re attaching the steer stops, but ill deal with that when the time comes!
Thanks for offering to help! I might be taking you up on that!

Thanks for cheking in!

Well that makes sense. I've seen people make their own, should be able to come up with something.

Jack

I would hope so! Probably gonna have to fab something up, but I have a BUCH O SCRAP to screw with. I would think that all I have to do is reposition where the old ones were, and Ill be good to go...I would think!
Right now, Im more concerned with the setting of the perches and grinding the short side to fit nicely against the diff! I DONT wanna screw that. I have to wait till I get my leaf spring pads from C dan, so I can re-assemble the spring packs and get to work. I just got my greasable pins from MAF...NICE!
Ive been day dreamin about wheelin, which is not a good sign since I cant! Oh well, I asked for it, so its my own doing!:D I would really like to do that Bronco Canyon run when this is finished! The pics looked like a lot of fun.

Nicely done so far. Who's high steer are you going to use?
