Finally! Tailgate Storage! (2 Viewers)

Finally got this sorted out and fully prototyped. Ordering up material for the first batch on Monday.

Added a brace hinge side in the middle that makes it rock solid/zero flex, along with a few other small changes for ease of manufacturing.

Will be sold in bare aluminum, with a carpet kit option and an interior padding option, or links to buy that stuff elsewhere. (You can see the old huracan fab foam inside tailgate)

Will be made from 3/16” aluminum. This will not be a cheap product, but it will be incredibly stout.

Any questions of “hOw MuCh” or “wHeN” will be met with a lingering pththbtbtbt style raspberry on the belly by your gross uncle.

It would’ve been super cool to have the ability for it to be keyed to match our center console, but that is not a possibility.

Very exciting! Will these holes (rivets?) be present in the final product or will they be hidden like was the case with the original back-bay customs storage panel?

Those will be visible as we aren’t going to be doing any welding on it.
 
Please let me know when you have this tail gate storage system in stock. If you need me to test it out for you I will. I've been eyeing your bumper, I have an old Kaymer Rear Bumper w/right tire swing that was made for a 60 series. I bent it out a little but it rubs a bit on a ruff trail. I like your bumper but I'd miss the extra tail lights/BU lights on the Kaymer.

I will post here when we start selling.

Getting carpet kit dialed now. Have a little tuning up to do on pattern, then off to have test pieces laser cut so the final product is nice and clean/edge sealed. Going to try two ways of dealing with bolt heads. You can see the ratty edges from knife cuts in the pics, the laser cutting should eliminate that.

Hey boss,
Ever thought about splitting these into two doors? I think it would be cool to have that ability. Like - I cook on one side of my tailgate and the other side can be used for storage. That would allow me to open one side without having to clear out the tail gate every time.

We are simply reproducing the Backbay Customs tailgate storage with some minor strength and ease of manufacturing updates. That could be a possibility in the future but would add even more cost and complexity (we already looked at adding strengthening parts in the center and decided it would take away from usability).

Not sure. Will need someone with an original Backbay one to come by the shop so we can mess around with it. Or maybe meet up at Cruise Moab, etc.

I'll keep hoping and praying for one key.... One key for my Delta console and tailgate storage, one key to rule them all :hillbilly:

Seriously though, Looking forward to seeing what you guys do with the tailgate storage, and what possible upgrades I can add to my Back Bay.
