@SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr -

I’m jelly of the Heckler (had one, sold it) - if yours is a L, LMK if you ever sell - I had the same yr just in blk/grey/orange.

To keep on-topic, I do like the carriers - was surprised Christo never made them in mass, plenty people were after them when he was concentrated on 80’s.

Yeah that's actually my friend's 5010CC. It is super sweet bike with carbon wheels and really nice components. I am still rocking a 26" wheeled Yeti.

I would bet that Christo wasn't interested in them for financial reasons. There is no way he could turn a profit on what I sell DIY kits for, and if I were a real full time business with overhead, I wouldn't be turning a profit with how labor intensive my kits are to produce. A bumper is a much better decision from a business stand point, especially if it bolts on. I think my kits would be a much harder sell if they were around $1500 for a bolt on option.

Here with a little update from something I never thought I would see and hate seeing but everyone as far as I know was okay. A swing out owner sent me photos after his truck was rear ended by an F150.

The swing out still operates smoothly and the only damage to the unit itself is to the crossmember stop plate and the latch.

I want to say I’m surprised that the swing out didn’t reach the body in anyway, but with the unique way it mounts to the frame and the overall beefiness of the unit, I don’t see how it could be mangled into reaching the body short of the cross member stop completely giving up.

My strut mount to the spindle stub bent. The taper at the bottom allowed the strut mount to bend. I machined a new one with a wider base and flats for a wrench.

What happened to this great product, was it a fail for the masses?

Check it out here.

Nothing happened to it, I just wasn’t able to offer it anymore. Once I graduated and moved, I no longer had a place to produce them nor did I really have the time with how time consuming the kits took to make as I cut and cleaned every cut edge by hand. It’s always been on my mind though, and since my spindle supplier closed up shop with covid, I had to pivot to a different size which meant it was time to change everything. I’ve probably played with 15 different versions since getting solidworks to the point I’m finally at about 90% with a final version 3 where 90% of the parts are laser cut and CNC bent as I’m looking to improve on every aspect of the old one.

It will now be a bolt on product, 20lbs lighter, more configurable, more adjustable, easier to install, and easier to ship. I’m still trying to source a couple components and working on finalizing the design / clearances / production steps to make this all happen again and be a smoother process all the way around for everyone involved.

Here it is as it sits today up until the point I ran out of welding wire on the backside of the wheel mounting plate.

Latest version is now available for ordering. It's been a long journey, and I'm pretty stoked with how things have progressed since creating my original version way back when...

I like the way it is presented. Looks like a bolt on application, no welding required?

It is a bolt on solution that I sell either as a DIY kit or welded
