Hello Everyone,

As you can see from my first pic, tear-down is almost complete.

I have the dash stripped, except for the bracket that holds the F.D. and the 4WD levers.

The 4wd came out without an issue, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to disassemble the Front Drive cable / lever / bracket from one another. I hope the photos will help.

I've checked my service manual, but I'm either blind or missing those pages.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

That pin in the slot unscrews from the cable. You then have to open the vacuum box on the firewall and remove the cable from the little C-clip. The entire unit from the silver bit in your pic to the end of the cable is 1 unit and does not come apart. I just changed this cable and it took forever to figure it out.

The vacuum box opens like a hinge. Once open there is a little screw holding the end of the cable. It's even more fun when it's time to put it back together.

BTW this cable is no longer available. I purchased a used one from Specter and it was in great condition. If I ever switch to floor shift I'll no longer need the vacuum stuff or that cable.

Hey Travis,

Looks like you've been busy. Have you decided what way, you're going first, Body work or drive train. Either way, it's all steps forward, remember to have some fun along the way.

Travis, not related to dash. Make sure you cross brace your pillars and tie them into the floor before cutting your Rockers.

Thanks Bob.

Cable Removal

The little pin (circled in red) just unscrews and releases the cable. All the headaches that thing gave me and it was that simple! Hope it helps.

I've removed the pin but it didnt come apart? After beating on it for a half hour I finally realized it was threaded. Do I need to pull harder to get it apart?

Hmmm... not sure? As you may be able to see from my pics, I had EVERYTHING stripped from the body except for that one cable. I was able to remove the pin, and the cable slid right out.

FYI, my cable was cut right to the back of harness, so I don't know if that helped me out at all.
