We needed to find a place to camp for the night, preferrably somewhere we could get high, so we peeled out and headed east to Cloudcroft.

Maybe not high AF like we were earlier in the week, but high nonetheless. Unlike Jake in Training Day, though, we did not want to get wet.

While we wanted to be high for the night, after our snow experience earlier, we decided to avoid being high AF if possible. So we scoped out a possible trail in High Rolls. We passed a very ugly campground or two before getting to another locked gate.
Scratch that.
We climbed another 2000' up to Cloudcroft, and peeled off toward the Mescalero Reservation.

Cloudcroft is a ski area, and we would be at 9000', so when we saw snow on the ground and felt the temperature drop as we drove in, we got a little worried.
When we came across this 18 wheeler parked near a bend in the road, we were even more worried. We were up near the reservation and we had an alien with us. WTH kinda situation were we driving up on?

Turns out he was just delivering a piano (yeah, right) and got lost. We kept going until we were almost to the border of the reservation and bunkered down for the night.

That was the cleanest example of a Mescalero energy dome ever documented and we wanted to be under it. #ETAF wanted to be under it.
Just like the Star of Bethlehem was placed to guide the Three Wise Men to the Baby Jesus, the universe placed this cloud to guide us to our camp site for the night. And when the Universe knocks, you answer.
If you Google energy domes (Devo hat), you can clearly see where the inspiration comes from.

If you remember back to post 392, I said that we were going to probe #ETAF tonight. The poor guy* was in really rough shape and could not even hold himself* up.
So we gave him an artificial backbone, carefully engineered out of Great Stuff and PVC pipe...

This is a family friendly site, so some things will be left to the imagination. But I will remind you that it was beno’s bachelor party. There was a PVC pole and alien nipple. That’s really all that needs to be said.
