If it’s not apparent from the last few posts, the greenest of this galaxy’s greentexters will be joining us. In a strange twist of irony, he has the bluest truck known to man.

Even funnier is that his Big Blue Tundra, aka the BBT, is so big and so blue that it usually just shows up as a big blue smudge in photos. Cameras refuse to focus on it.

Poor guy...

When mapping the trip, I notice that one of my possible routes to Roswell passes right by the BBT, and it’s at a pretty good stopping point for the day, 8 or 9 hours away.

Since I am unemployed now, I need to cut expenses where possible, so I reserve a room in the back of the BBT to avoid paying for a hotel.

In another strange twist, the tropical South has been hit with an extreme cold front, and we will need to escape to high elevation to seek warmer temperatures.

Temps in NM will be much nicer. The forecast calls for highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s. And dry. Perfect camping weather.

Soon after, meal assignments and crew roles are handed out. In no particular order...

Andy, @ntsaint , is the Chief Navigator and lead barista.

Nolen, @wngrog , SitReps, old man sandal wearer, order barker, drone pilot.

Chef Lou, aka @under_psi , in charge of mind blowing cuisine. .

Beno, aka @beno , is the token brown guy in case we get into a pickle with Homeland Security near the border and need a sacrifice.

RUN PMC, @pmccraney , Esquire-at-Large, will provide legal services if the beno sacrifice doesn’t work.

JTUranium, aka @Jtranum , OPSEC.

Bomar, @Bomar , will rock the mic and keep us full of brisket.

Ron, aka @Papalud , will be the long-haired decoy in case we get hassled by the cops. Also top-shelf photography.

The BBT’s driver, aka @Fireman , target of most of the jokes, emergency services provider.

And myself, historian/documentarian and back-up barista.

There’s also our new friend, ETAF, but it’s still a little early for the formal introduction.

Why didn’t this trip happen before I became employed? One day...

So if you are currently refining your work absence strategy, then why are the thread updates taking so long. I mean as the trip historian/documentarian, isn't this kind of your job now? Just sayin':D

Technically, it’s not even Christmas, but I’ll fast forward to the day of departure...

Everyone takes off from their various locales and times. Nolen sends a SitRep every so often to heckle the stragglers (beauty of a blue group text w/location sharing)...

It’s a two-day trip for most, and we slowly converge on our first night destinations.

Nolen also gradually adds pics to the blue dots as the day progresses.

Almost everyone experiences a few obstacles. Some get stuck in traffic. Some have shi**y C-Spire service and get lost, and I get pulled over for speeding.

Somewhere in Texas, on my final stretch of Highway, I get pulled over for speeding.

I pull over immediately. When the popo walks up, he tells me, and I sh*t you not, “you were going 80 in a 60.”

I try not to die laughing because I am in a 60 that thinks it’s an 80.

RUN PMC, Esquire, makes a few calls, and I’m soon on my way without a ticket.

Most of the folks are meeting up in Abilene, beno & Ron are already in New Mexico, and I am stopping at Fireman’s house, where I am greeted by the BBT.

Looks pretty good in that picture.

While that’s debatable, the next day we would discover that if you are following it, it looks like an 80 is coming straight at you...
