I had a new exhaust put on my 89. It was leaking around the o2 sensor. I had them weld it up for now. They say I can get a pipe with the o2 sensor "bracket" in it for $150 installed. DO I need the o2 sensor or can I just put a new pipe in it's place? Will it affect the running of my motor?

The truck is a 89 4X4 standard cab short bed pickup. It has the 3.0 in it

Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, you need the O2 sensor. You need it because:

* without it your EFI ECU will go into "closed loop" condition, and it will run very rich. Your gas mileage will go way down.

* It should turn on the CEL on the dash, and you won't pass inspection till you get it fixed.

* Your engine will not have a properly functioning emissions system, and it will become a gross polluter. Think of the ozone....

Another option that works well, Slee Toyota O2 Sensor Bung.

Installed on my 2FE.

thanks!!

The guy at my muffler shop was going to charge me 105 just for the pipe that comes out of the flange that has the 'donut' gasket in it. It has the 'port' that holds the O2 sensor. I like the last post MUCH better!!

I should be able to have it fixed for much less that way.

If he will go that direction.

Guess it would be best to go ahead and put a new O2 sensor in while doing it.....?

My cel was on till I put the new exhaust system on. I didn't have but a pipe and a flowmaster muffler. Guess not enuff back pressure or something. ANyway I like the O2 sensor install kit a lot better!! U know I would be paying extra when they started trying to get the old flange bolts out too!!
