Sorry, can't promise that... I'm a GM lover :D This is going to be a long distance, heavy hauler, expedition build so I'll probably stick to the V8 power. Looking at going with the MSD fuel injection eventually.

You just haven't tried a Toyota diesel yet. :flipoff2:

Why not make your own rear bumper? If you're just looking for a bumper and hitch, you aren't talking rocket surgery. And, that way you get exactly what you want, and nothing more.

Be a shame to put that anchor back on, it looks so nice now!

Don't listen to Dan, he freebases diesel. :-)

.... What tires are you running? I'm looking at the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2's right now......

I am currently running the original KM's on the 40. They are 33-10.50. I really like them. I bought a single KM2 for my spare because the original KMs are discontinued. I recently purchased 4 new KM2s in the same size to install on my FJ80 and I really like them as well.

:mad::mad: So apparently there is a mass shortage of American Racing Mojave's in the US. I managed to get 3 ordered that were actually in stock but that's where the good news stops.

I've tried ordering the other two from 3 different sellers on Amazon who's marketplace said they were in stock... guess what, they're not. They don't tell you this until after charging your credit card.

If I could just find one more I'd be happy for a while. Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter much since the longer studs are back-ordered too. :bang:

Dieseling update: Filled fuel tank #2 with 92 octane, ran it hard on the way home, and got zero dieseling when I shut it off.

The Italian tune up usually works well after it's been sitting around.

She's a beaut! Congrats!

Thanks for the link! What size tires you going with?

No problem, hope they have plenty for you.

I'm going with the BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2 LT285/70R17 using 1/4" spacers and longer ARP lugs.

Just like KY Hunter's setup:

Wheel Update: The supplier http://www.andysautosport.com/ Andy's Autosport just informed me that my wheels are "expected" to ship 11/29/13. Obviously they're not "in stock" as the salesperson claimed. I had him double check the stock and part number prior to placing my order. They said the wheels would arrive in 6 to 8 days... and that they had "tons" of them.

I suggest you steer clear of these folks. I canceled my order and will continue the search... now we will see how long it takes to get my card refunded.

I just looked on the American Racing website and they are not listing the size with the bolt pattern we need anymore. I hope they haven't stopped making them.

Something about this rebuild kit from Marlin Crawler isn't quite right...
I think they got their order crossed up with someone else's.

I guess I'll be on the phone Monday to get the right kit on the way... it's been rough going on the Troopy project lately. :frown::bang:

Guess I'll go ahead and get some fresh calipers and brake hoses ordered. Maybe even a backing plate delete kit but I can't decide.

I wonder what those retainers fit? I thought the knuckle size was the same on all 40/60 axles whether disk or drum brake. Surely 80s are even bigger since the birfs are.

Hope you get the wheels and the rebuild kit straightened out soon.

I think I figured it out... the kit they sent is for a Suzuki Samurai! I didn't even know they sold them for a Suzuki! *facepalm*

I took some time and tore into the bumper to see what was causing the huge bulges. Turns out some poor post welding treatment (or lack thereof) caused water to accumulate in three spots. The pile of rust is from just hitting it a few times with a hammer after cutting the sheet metal lip out of the way.
I've decided to build my own lighter bumper that will incorporate a 2" receiver for the future expedition trailer or my dirt bike hauler.

Great news about the bumper; good riddance to that anchor, looking forward to your custom one.

If you're replacing the calipers, I'd recommend getting ones for a '93 v6 4wd 4 runner: bigger pistons, larger pads and bolt right up. Since your getting rid of the backing plate for some reason you won't even have to trim them.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to doing some fab work too! :grinpimp: I'm going to play with a few ideas once I get this axle taken care of.

I called Marlin Crawler about the wrong knuckle kit and they got one on the way ASAP. Funny thing is, they don't even sell that Samurai kit so it sounds like a freak mix up with a supplier.

As to the backing plate, I know there's two schools of thought on it, but I decide to get rid of mine because I'm going to a 17" wheel which will widen the rim-to-plate opening even more. Most of my travel will be on gravel of varying size so I thought it better to eliminate the off chance of something getting stuck in there.
I could already tell from the scarred interior side of the left rotor, and the tell-tell signs of prying on the dust plate, that it had already happened to someone before.
And, since rain isn't usually in the southeastern New Mexico forecast... why not chunk 'em?

Got a whole truck load of shiny new parts headed this way from Marlin and CCOT.
Will have a few more coming as soon as I can get through to Mark's. :steer:

Too long on the stands!
