99% of the time with symptoms like yours it is a fuel delivery insufficiency. Confirm by putting the tranny in N and shuttingoff the engine when it starts stubmling, coast to a stop and check the fuel level in the carb window. If there is no fuel in the bowl, check the usual suspects.

Well I did this on my way home. When I stopped there was no fuel in the carb window. I was on my way to napa any way so I picked up new fuel filter. Well when I got home I installed the new filter and started her up.

I noticed that when it was running it looked like there were bubbles coming threw the line with the fuel. Then i reved it up with the air filter cover off and I wasn't ever able to get it to stumble here but I noticed that when the RPMs got really high it stated just pouring fuel out of the 2 nozzles that face upwards on the carb. is this normal? Plus I also noticed that my carb was suffectly covered in suit. I can only assume that this is a direct result of the backfirings that have been occuring.

Well I put everything back together and looked though the carb window again to just see what the fuel level was like in there. And I notice that it was getting lower and lower but it also looked like it was stil delivering fuel but most with bubbles again...WTF over??? I have no clue what could be causing this. Any ideas?

these symptoms sound like fuel starvation to me as well.

there is sometimes a filter under the banjo bolt on the carb, check that out. dont rule out the idle selenoid either, typically not what your describing but it does control a fuel circuit. fuel pump could be on its way out and can be heat related. make sure your gas tank is venting, remove the cap for your commute tommorow and see what happens.

Where is the idle selenoid and what does it look like and do?

I feel really ignorante right now but the only way I am going to learn is by asking all these semingly basic questions...:o

Crack in the fuel line between the pump and the carburetor?

Crack in the fuel line between the pump and the carburetor?

I dunno I dont see any fuel leaking out any where. and I dont see a crack anywhere. Am I assuming corectly that the hole that supplies this is from the fuel in source?

Oh and the carb window is empty now.

This only happens at freeway speed? Forget the idle solonoid....

Okay but just so I know where is it located for future reference.

It's on the carburetor end of the wire going to your carburetor. A cylinder-shaped thing that plugs the fuel to the idle circuit except when the car is turned on.

Cool thanks mang.

Anybody else got any ideas about what could be going on here?

I remember this is the cruiser that sat for long time. I'm I correct? :) You have to remove your gas tank and clean it. I'm not sure where the output for the gas is located make that line is not clogged. ON my fj45lv the line output is located on top of gas tank. I removed it and ran a coat hanger until it was clean. It ran after that. Make your lines are clean as well.

Wait a sec...you have gas coming OUT of the two slanty tubes that face upwards in the carb?!? Those are vent tubes to the float bowl. That is not normal. That would cause a stumble I bet. That might be due to a bad needle valve. Do you have a fuel return line on this carb?

Yeah, gas is not supposed to come out of the vent chimneys... I would second the bad needle valve or clogged fuel return... Unless you like to work on your cruiser while it is listing about 35 degrees.

It only had fuel bubbling out of those at an extremely high RPM. I was trying to get it to stumble, and once the RPMs got way up there thats when fuel came out of the vent chimneys. But it never stumbled and backfired.

I don't think this is the issue because when I stopped on my way home yesterday after it started stumbling the carb window was empty.

And when i got home I noticed that after I shut the engine down it looked like fuel was still going into the carb through the window but at the same time the carb was draining fuel.
