You could, if your going to have the motor out though, why not just replace all of them ? Rockauto sells the Japanese made Clevite bearings. You can do mains, rod bearings, and the thrust washers for less than $100. Once the motor is out of course.

No interest in pulling motor until ready for V8 swap in 3-6 months, just want to keep the 1FZ running reliably until ready ready for the V8 swap.
I don't understand, you asked about just replacing the #2 bearing. Were you planning on doing that with the motor in the vehicle ?
Double checked yesterday and this is still the case. 2/3 at idle cold, just above 1/3 at idle after 5 min warm.Cool thx...

There are no hydraulic lifters on a 1FZ-FE. They are solid lifters and more oil pressure is not going to change the valve train. The Toyota owners manual shows oil pressure indication to be normal at anything above the bottom line. Without a real gauge, anything else is just guessing.
Toyota says that that the pressure should be 4.3 psi @ warm idle, and 36-71 psi @ 3000 rpm.
Would not the leak down test shown the "beat up" cylinders (less compression)?
Would a Blackstone oil check been of any value in this case?
my 92 fj80 sounds like a sewing machine too lolI have had multiple "mechanics" tell me I've got a "lifter going bad" or "a knock". The first time one told me that was in 1993 when my 80 was a year old. I too have the sewing machine/diesel/tractor motored 3FE. She just keeps on a ticking...![]()
