Ok folks,

I’m looking to find out if anyone knows of the 2F can be removed by the Chinese engine hoists without sheet metal removal.

As a data point, mine has a 4” suspension lift and 33” tires.

I do not plan to pull with the transmission attached.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure it has the capacity to support the 2F and transmission/transfer case. You will need a sling and coma long to support the output side of the TC because it will want to roll. You will need a transmission jack to support the transfer case until you can sling around the transfer case once past the fire wall.
Pull the grill or just unbolt from the aprons and fenders and lay it down on the frame behind the bumper.

HF hoists can do the engine, tranny, transfer. Done it many times. Remove front bib. Air down front tires or remove front tires and place on lower blocks.

There's no way to leave the trans and t/case in the vehicle. It's bolted to the bellhousing and hang off the back of it. It doesn't have a crossmember to keep it in place. You'll have to remove the stuff around the trans hump inside of the vehicle and remove it too.

The other alternative is to drop the transmission and transfer case to the floor first. Did that once but once I got the 155F removed and bolted up the adapters to the R2.8 I installed the bell housing, flywheel and gear boxes and lifted together as shown in the manual.

Take the starter off. Mark your connections. I have pulled engine/tranny/transfer out by myself at least 3 times but I use an A frame/chain falls. Once I pulled the T/T. I wasn't boy enough to put them back - so I pulled the engine, mated the parts and installed the whole unit.

When I pull my sbc I leave the b/h, trans and tcase in the 40. The trans/tcase is supported by a crossmember. I also altered my tranny hump so I dont have to remove it if I have to remove the tranny/tcase on my white 40. It's equipped with a sbc, sm420, and a dana 20 tcase.

But... this info doesnt really help the OP.

By far the easiest way is to remove the body. Then you can remove and install the drivetrain with no obstructions. Good excuse to start a restoration “while you’re in there” too.

In seriousness though, my hoist is a 2 ton folding, not from HF but still an import (20+ years old). It has the height to pull my engine without dropping bib but I do have to slightly tip it over the bib. No leveler or it wouldn’t clear. I’ve pulled and installed everything together, as well as trans/ t-case separate from engine. Idk if either way is better.

I did use a leveler on when I pulled the motor and then when I was doing the replacement of the motor and drive train. But you still need to support the transfer case so it does not roll the drive train.

I pulled my motor a couple of months back. It was easiest to drop the bib on the front, remove the radiator, and then pull the engine and transmission/transfer case as one unit.
As others have noted, remove and label hoses and wires as you go.
to give me some clearance, I ended up pulling off the rear engine mounts (on the bellhousing) as it gave some clearance.

To get the transmission out - you remove the gear shift lever and I had to remove the 4WD stick as well, as I could not tilt the transmission enough to clear the transmission cover.

Have a frame or some type of cradle ready to receive the engine - it is very heavy and you don't really want to sit it on the oil plan.

Remember to take photos and post them.

The I 6 weighs about 800 lbs.
Don't forget to pull the TC shifter too.

When I pulled the 155F I was scrapping it and put it in my front end loader bucket and moved to my car hauler and eventually took to the scrap yard.
