Ok so while removing my headers to have some leakes welded I had them come in contact with a bare stud on my alt.... while and no I did not remove battery connects I know real smart....
So as I watch the sparks fly I figure utO' so by the time I get up I see the white 10g wire that travels from bat to alt explde in flames (insert panic here) get flames out no real visable damage. So I figure I have fried the alt and VR. Get alt tested and indeed no bueno.
So I have replaced the alt and VR tre into the wiring harnes and yarded out the fried wire and replaces it with a new 10g. All back together and No power?????
What am I missing
fuses OK
new alt/ new vr, new ground wire, new positive cable. is there anything else (relay) I should look at/replace. All thoughts very much appreciated and leson well learnt.

Battery is good.
No power to fuse box
Were is the fusible link I'm not seeing one

Anyone. PO wired direct to bat. I have not found the fusible. any and all help would be much appreciated. No power to fuse box. Any other relay I sould look at?

The fusible link is attached to the + battery post and is connected with a plastic connector - it's the white wire in the photo

Fusible link was probably fried and tossed by the PO long ago. And that's why the alt got fried...

I would agree no fusible link found still no power no start where else should I look/test/replace?

Back of the fuse panel. Take it off check the connections. Also as asked before do you have an ammeter? What year cruiser? Your giving us little to go off of.

Edit: Scratch that. We still need to know what year though.

Do this. Does your rear window still work? If so then your problem is in two places. The gauge cluster (ammeter) dummy light. Or the connections on the back of the fuse panel. Check the ammeter first. Get back to us.

Ok sorry for the lack of info

Back window does not still work. No lights, Battery reads 12.2 back of alt reads same. I can get the motor to turn over with a remote starter. But that is it. Thank you

Check the ignition switch is working properly. Double check the fuse block. Sometimes they can appear 'OK' but they have actually melted resulting in no contact being made. Same goes for the ammeter guage.

Do you hear a 'click' for the fuel cutoff solenoid, when you turn the key from 'off' to 'on' (not to 'start')?

OK thank you all for your help. She is running again. There was no fusible link at all. One now added. There was also a unseen splice between alt wire and fuse block wiring. Found replaced fired right up. Yipee. However, Now turn signals do not work nor do backup lights or rear tail lights fuses are good more wiring I'm sure. I will get into it tonight and post finds. Again thank you for your help.

Funny b/c those symptoms are when the fusible link is broken. Double check your fusible link is proper guage, etc. The fusible link is there to save all your solenoids and switches from being fried when there is a short. IIRC, even if fusible link is broken, the vehicle will start, but you won't have any auxillaries.

;)
